@Mrs. Bee: It is liquid gold but pumping too much can exacerbate the problem since milk production works by demand.

Kellymom has some good ideas on positioning. http://kellymom.com/bf/supply/fast-letdown.html
For me it was just the initial swallow that she would gag so as long as I got the flow going first, which wasn't much milk, she was fine.

If it's just the let down you could just express without a pump until you get the bigger letdown and then let her eat. I hate cleaning pump parts so I just had a handkerchief.

My LO sleeps 9+ hours a night, and I have to wake up at around 3am to pump. I usually get about 4 ounces at this session.

I used to pump a little bit so my LO wouldn't be overwhelmed by the let down.

Have you tried pumping a little... just to remove a bit of milk?

My milk supply is at a good place. I can freeze 4 ounces of milk every 2-3 days so it's not an abundance, but definitely enough for olive and a little extra.

Now my problem is when Olive does a 5 hour stretch of sleep at night, that's when I produce the most milk. She chokes on it because the let down is so strong. Anyone else have this problem? What do you do about it?
