When DD would actually sleep in longer stretches, it was usually because she was going through a growth spurt. So enjoy it!!

Your ped says 18 is normal.

Listen to your doctor. They spent all that time in med school.

Also, babies go through all kinds of growth spurts when they're that little... They nurse a ton and sleep more.

My LO is a marathon sleeper, and during growth spurts and such she sleeps even longer. I just count my blessings! Now that she's a little older I know it is totally normal for her

@rahlyrah: I check that she is still breathing at least once a night! But in the morning before she wakes up she gets super grunty so I know she's all good :)

I think she might even fall back asleep now!

@Foodnerd81: That's awesome! B has been asleep for 8.5 hours and I am laying here awake. Lol. I got up to pump and now I can't fall back asleep. Who are these babies?! I literally had my face all up in his a few minutes ago to make sure he was still breathing.

Sounds normal to me. LO was so tired last night! I was nursing him to sleep and he stopped eating after a few minutes and was completely knocked out. I was sure he'd wake me up after an hour, but he slept for 4.5 hours. I think it's just all very inconsistent at this point.

You're not alone. DD is six weeks, and has started sleeping 6+ hour stretches at night. This is often after a two hour, evening nap. At first I thought she may be narcoleptic (lol), but now I'm just rejoicing to the sleep gods, and rolling with it. Granted, we bed share, so I'm not sure she would be sleeping as soundly, solo.

Yes, sounds normal. My daughter occasionally had days like you're describing. I always totally freaked out b/c for her sleeping for that long was very abnormal. However, she was always fine, and I think she was just going through a growth spurt in most of these cases. Her body needed the extra energy to grow!

I stayed up worried almost the whole night the first time this happened...even after the pedi told me to just let her sleep. But it was right around a month, too.

We just took it as a sign that we should try putting her to bed a little earlier than we were trying before--we tried an hour earlier and that seemed to work. Now she is a great sleeper! (Hopefully it will stay that way!)

If she is acting fine otherwise (eating, dipes are normal) then hooray! My LO got a bit ill after the rotavirus vaccine and ended up slightly dehydrated...the only odd behavior I noticed was that she fell asleep in my arms without nursing or rocking, and allowed me to transfer her to her crib. The two naps she took in her crib that day were the only times she has slept in there!

I know there are sleep regressions, but is there such thing as times when babies sleep extra? C is a month old, and has been a so-so sleeper, and not a great napper in particular. Then last night, she took a 2 hour nap, then slept over 6 hours in one stretch overnight, after falling asleep on her own-- not nursed down, but just laying on DH she conked out and didn't wake up when I changed or swaddled her. She was up after 6 this morning, went down for a nice nap a couple hours later and has been sleeping for 3 hours and counting.

I THINK I should be counting my blessings, but it's so unlike her it's making me nervous. Is this what normal babies do? The ped said at this age babies usually sleep 18 hours a day and I laughed at him, since C was maybe sleeping 12 if you include cat naps here and there. So, maybe she is just older and can sleep longer? Tell me if I'm just being nutso and should relax!
