We had a huge fussypants too and I'd say she was swaddled around 16 hours per day for the first three months. And then she was froggied up in a moby for a lot of the rest of the time. Doesn't seem to have had any effect on LO's development. As long as you're careful that her hips can move freely she'll be fine.

We swaddled for nighttime and all naps from birth to 6 months old. She's just fine! Just don't get it really tight on her legs and you should be golden.

@Madison43: @creativemomma15: @DigAPony: @winniebee: @delight: yay! Okay thanks guys, this makes me feel better! Her legs and hips seem free, just as you described! She just loves being swaddled. As soon as she starts to fuss and gives me the sleepy signs, the swaddle is on and she instantly calms down. They really are a lifesaver!

We used swaddle sacks for nighttime sleep and naps until she was 5 months. The sleep sacks seemed to be pretty roomy in the leg and hip department. She's 10 months now and she seems to be doing just fine with her motor skills.

My son was swaddled for all sleep until 4 months. We used the summer infant swaddled or miracle blanket and his legs were pretty free.

We used halo sleep sacks from birth until six months for nighttime and naps. They are a lifesaver! They are perfectly safe for baby's hips, don't worry.

@ellewoods84: I've also heard about swaddling legs too much but I think the halo sleep sacks do a good job of allowing some movement and range of motion with their legs while swaddling their arms. My DS was swaddled to sleep until almost 6 months and DD is 5 1/2 months and still swaddled most of the time. Her doctor said he isn't concerned at all and if she keeps needing swaddled even longer he didn't care. I think as long as you are making sure your LO is having her awake time unsaddled and getting tummy time/floor time you should be fine.

We swaddled for overnight and naps from birth to like 5 months - LO loved it! I used an A & A blanket until she got too big and then we moved into a halo swaddle sack. I have never swaddled her hips ... whether using a blanket or a sleep sack, her legs and hips were always loose. To double check,
I would also bend her legs into the froggy position after I swaddled to make sure she had complete range of movement from the hips down.

Yeah that's what I was worried about! We have been using the halo swaddle sack thing or the summer infant swaddleme so I thought she had enough room to move around, but maybe not! What do I use to just upper body swaddle?

Swaddling their legs too much can affect proper hip development. I would try for just an upper body swaddle for naps and stick with a full swaddle at night.

Here is my 1,000th sleep question/concern! Baby girl is almost 6 weeks old so as I am sure others know, pretty much a big ole fusspot a majority of the time. One thing that does seem to calm her (thank god we found something), is swaddling. So, she swaddled for all night time sleep-around 8ish hours and then swaddled for most of her naps during the day probably around 6ish hours. This makes me feel like she is swaddled like all the time! Can you swaddle too much? Am I setting her up for poor development or something?
