So interesting! I always heard you should drink more water but I don't have much experience! Good to know!

Interesting I've never really had any trouble and on a normal day I average about a gallon of water.

I try to drink through my 24 oz water bottle 2 times a day, minimum, and if I'm really ambitious, I try for 3. I'm also hungry all the time, so I generally snack a lot (even though it's not really the healthy foods). I produce about 30-35oz, he eats about 20oz at this point.

If I don't get caught up in being busy, I can drink a gallon & a half of water a day. But I usually average a little less than a gallon because I forget to fill up or get distracted when I go to do so. I don't really know if it affects my supply as I've always drank a lot of water but I have heard this before.

Wow. Yea I would agree and think that as long as you are also eating enough healthy calories the amount of water shouldn't matter too much.

curious so I googled it - looks like too much water can reduce potassium levels which effects BM output BUT if you are getting potassium from food then the additional water wont effect you!
Interesting!

I did not have this issue...I never pumped really, so I don't know in oz but my LO nursed until 15 months so she definitely got enough.

I drank a TON of water. At least 2-3 of my water jug a day..not positive how many oz it is. My brita fills it.

I make great milk and drink 120+ but golly I have to eat a LOT! Like @Anagram: I find it is all about that. At first I ate 5000 then 4000... now I am eating 3-4000.

@Anagram: that makes sense. When I tried to diet, I got nowhere near 15 ounces per day. :)

i aim for 64 oz. I EP, so I can easily see what I pump every day and in the 9.5 months I've been EPing, I've found the singles greatest determiner of how much I pump is how many calories I take in.

When I was pumping the most, I was easily eating >3500 a day. Now I'm tracking my calories and eating 1800 NET calories (deducting the 20 cals/oz my body burns while pumping--so I'm actually eating quite a bit more that 1800 cals a day), and STILL my supply is dropping a bit.

If I were breastfeeding, I'd have no clue that my calorie intake has such a drastic effect on my bm production.

I've never heard this! But, I've never had as much water to drink as I need to. I average about 80 oz a day on a good day.

I'm a water fiend, I drink almost a gallon a day so I saw this and it got me wondering if I'm screwing up my supply? I pump 12-14 ounces normally and DS drinks 15.

How much water do I need to drink?
Let your thirst be your guide. Many mothers find they get thirsty when they are breastfeeding, so have a glass of water nearby when you sit down to breastfeed. Mothers who drink too much water can lower their milk supply.
