@tysonja: You also could just try to do a fruit infused water instead of juice. Just like people drop a lemon into the water you can do the same thing with cucumber, strawberries, orange slices, etc to give the water flavor without adding the sugar from juice.

@tysonja: Our LO didn't like water or the sippy cup until she had a stomach bug. We were giving her grape pedilyte in a sippy cup and she LOVED it. We just gradually watered the pedialyte down more and more and now she drinks water.

we have the opposite problem, kind of!

LO is 10.5 months, eats 3 meals a day and one snack. He drinks 7 oz formula from a cup at each meal, and 4-5 oz formula at his snack. (total about 25+ oz a day), he eats quite a bit at each meal as well.

our problem is that he doesn't like water at all and probably hasnt had more than a few teaspoons his whole life! he seems to not know what to do with it in his mouth and ends up coughing :). he also makes a yucky face with water :P

he doesn't use a bottle or sippy/straw cups (refuses all), but prefers to be fed from a regular cup. which is fine, but i'm worried about when we go on a plane in a month!

hope it works out for your LO! :) great that she likes water, though! :)

@looch: she's had pretty much everything out there other than shellfish, nuts and honey. :) I will definitely make sure she is getting yogurt and cheese at a couple of meals. Thanks for that suggestion!

It sounds to me like she is transitioning more to solids. Maybe offer her formula before she has her solid meal so she will take more of it?

My son loved solids at that age, I did talk to my ped about it and he wasn't concerned with how little formula he was drinking at the time...he was down to about 12 ounces per day at the time, but he was eating a good amount of cheese and yogurt...not sure how comfortable you are with introducing those, if you haven't already?

@babynumber1: it's possible. She *really* likes to eat solids. I know milk/formula is best for her until she's 1, though and since she's still not quite 10 months, I worry a little about it.

@mediagirl: Do you think that she is starting to make the transition to more solids?

Our LO is starting to do the same thing, but she is eating quite a bit of solids. She was getting an 8oz bottle at bedtime, now that is down to 5oz since she quit drinking so much. She also struggles to finish most of her bottles. I just assumed that it was the natural transition from formula being her primary nutrition supply to solid food. We plan on dropping one of her daytime bottles when she turns 11 months old. She also gets 3 bottles of 4oz during the day at daycare

ETA: Our schedule is almost identical to yours, except she gets her dinner at 6:30 and bedtime bottle at 7:45.

@mediagirl: I don't really remember. I just know now that she is a year, at daycare they get WCM at meals plus water at snack.

I was just thinking that if you are concerned then I would think about trying milk/formula in the cup sometimes.

@Weagle: @regberadaisy: I'm going to talk in silicone cup sizes here because I don't measure things. :) She gets a silicone cup full of oatmeal mixed with applesauce and a silicone cup of sliced banana for breakfast. For lunch she has a silicone cup of veggies, one of a meat and one of a starch or fruit. She may also get a puree pack if still hungry. For dinner, she gets about the same as lunch.

@T.H.O.U.: It wasn't suggested by our pediatrician. He just said start offering water in a sippy cup and start moving away from purees and more towards solids when we saw him at our 9 month appt. Did you start offering breastmilk or formula with meals, as well as or instead of water before moving to cows milk?

What is her solid intake? LO drinks about 5oz of water per day, nurses 2-3 times, and gets 4 oz of pumped milk at bedtime. I obviously don't know how much she's drinking when she nurses, but she nurses for 3-4 minutes total whereas she used to nurse 15ish minutes. And two months ago she was drinking 7-8 oz in her bedtime bottle. I know her milk intake is much less these days, but I'm attributing it to her solid intake increasing.

ETA: We offer water at meals, too. And any other time throughout the day when she's not nursing.

9 oz of milk a day seems pretty low. Our pediatrician said my DD (8 mths) should be getting minimum of 18oz, but preferably 20-24oz. Maybe try minimizing the water and see if she'll drink more milk? We were told by our ped to feed 2-4oz of water a day once we start solids (to avoid constipation).

I know this is just a forum and I should ask my pediatrician if I'm overly concerned but I thought I would throw it out there.

My lo is almost 10 months old. She nurses in the morning, gets three 4oz bottles at daycare and almost religiously leaves an ounce of breastmilk in each (be still my heart). She started doing the same thing a couple of months ago with 5oz so, I dropped the bottles down to 4oz bottles.

She gets 3 meals a day plus a snack (sometimes). Her schedule goes like this:
6am Nurse
8am Breakfast w/water
9am Bottle
12pm Bottle
1pm Lunch w/water
3pm Bottle
3:30pm Snack
5pm Nurse
5:30pm Dinner w/water
6:30pm Bedtime comfort nurse

That schedule has not changed since she started leaving ounces. She gets water with her meals. I'm wondering if maybe she is getting too much water at meals and therefore doesn't want milk at bottle times? Is that possible? Has anyone else run into this where their lo really started dropping ounces?

If she leaves an ounce of milk in each bottle, that means she is getting just 9oz of milk during the day. Doesn't seem like enough to me....

Thoughts?

Note: she is happy and is gaining weight along her growth curve.
