@Maysprout: I think he saw her huge pregnant belly and thought that was the boob. Luckily, she thought it was funny.

Yes -- I can't believe how observant they can be!

I didn't realize my daughter had tuned in at all to my worries that I might have gestational diabetes, until one afternoon about a week ago when she said, "That snack was yummy. But it was too much sugar and now I have diabetes."

Fast-forward to this evening as we're coming back home from a potluck:
Her daddy: "Was your popsicle yummy?"
LO: "Yes. But it was a lot of sugar and --"
Her daddy & I at the same time: "No, you don't have diabetes."

Today my daughter kicked a ball (she's just learned this) and said 'holy crap!' I try not to swear around her, but clearly not hard enough.

@T.H.O.U.: Yikes, that ones kinda scary!
@Mrs. Jacks: Yeah, I responded 'oh smoking is yucky' but then she looked really sad like I was scolding her for playing, so I probably should have just saved that talk for later. DH convinced me she wasn't about to go to the crack pipe bc of a crayon cig.
@lamariniere: Haha, why'd he only think she had one boob? I get changed in front of our daughter too so whenever we go past a bra section she yells 'bubies!'

Kind of along the same lines, I am not shy about running around naked in front of my toddler and he know what boobs are. The other day, he took a look at one of the other moms at preschool (who was a week away from birthing her 2nd) and said loudly, pointing, "that lady has one boob".

Wow! That's intense. They really are little sponges. And we can't protect them from everything.

Not so far but only time will tell with my LO.

I see this all the time with preschool students. Some parents do not realize how much impact the environment have on their children, whether the contact/influence is direct/indirect.

LO picked up a crayon today and pretended to smoke a cigarette! No one in either of our families smokes, so I asked if she was doing what the neighbors across the street do and she said smiled and said yes. They do come outside regularly to smoke so she sees them from across the street or when we are walking somewhere and say hi but jeesh, I never realized it made an impression on her.

Has your LO picked up on anything surprising lately?
