Is there one you could borrow for travel? If not, if it would make life easier, buy one, then you can re-sell it or share it with others.

We were just in Europe for vacation with my 2.5 and 5.5 year olds. I borrowed one of those sit & stand strollers from a friend that folds down really small. My older one had the option to stand in the back, or he could sit... And, half the time the little one wanted to stand in the back. It was GREAT. and I have to say, having it in the airport was really helpful to keep them both contained to the stroller. My older one only wanted to sit in it on the long walking days in the city... and my little one could still nap in it!

My DD1 is 5 almost six. She's a pretty good walker so we went to Disney last year sans stroller (still had one for my 2 year old) and it wasnt too big of a problem as long as we had breaks. But thats true for any adults. But shes tiny and she could have gotten away with it. Just being honest, but there were like huge 8 year olds in strollers at disney and I was major side-eying but in the end who cares? I'm all about moms actually enjoying their vacays instead of putting more work on us.

I say you do you. If getting a stroller would make all of our lives better, go for it! My 5 year old is not a walker (even though we live in a city center and she says her favorite thing about our neighborhood is that she can "walk" to lots of things). For short walks she perches on the front of our BOB while her sister sits in the seat, or we use the double stroller for longer walks. If we didn't have those options, I would totally consider a stroller for bigger kids. Better to do what you need to do to get out and walk/enjoy your vacation than argue with your kid/worry about what others think!

I actually think there are a lot of opportunities to sit or commute in WDW that you don't need a stroller. For example, if your car is parked far away, they have trolleys that take you to the entrance gates. The real PITA (at least for me) is the Value Resorts as the busses are the furthest away and you do have no other option but to walk to them. Not to mention, that a lot of places, you need to fold them and what not, it's a hassle.

I probably wouldn't buy one. My older LO stopped using the stroller and 4, and the ride on board completely at 5 when we lived in a city with no car. He could/can literally walk 5-6 miles if needed, without a single complaint. My younger LO is 4 now and we sold our stroller before we moved. We live in a very car-centric city now so we don't walk a ton. When she does have to walk, she can do it, but we take a lot of breaks and sometimes one of us will carry her for a bit. I think @2littlepumpkins: 's idea of renting one is a good idea, but definitely check the weight limits.

It sounds like you could just rent one if you really needed to use one. (Like this doesn't sound like a frequent occurrence?) My two older kids think strollers are for babies and would not get in one anyway, but that may not be an issue if yours is used to it. As a bystander that always wonders about older kids in strollers...who cares what bystanders think? Anyone who actually says anything kind of sucks as a person anyway.

I have a double stroller that has a weight limit of 45 pounds per seat. My 5 year old is right around 45 pounds, so he probably won't fit much longer. We only use the double when we are at Disney or doing a lot of walking like at a festival, but for the most part he can walk. I'm not sure how much your daughter weighs, but I would research the weight limits on different strollers and how much use you may get out of it before she would outgrow it.

Personally I wouldn’t bother with a new stroller. I took just my son to FL this year to visit my parents and it was amazing to go on a trip and not bring a stroller. He’s 4 and we pretty much never use it for him in day to day life. We only occasionally use an umbrella stroller for my 2 year old.

Depending on where else you’re going, I’d probably just rent a stroller. There’s lots of places that rent strollers for Disney and they’ll deliver them to you and pick them up. That’s what we’ll do when we go to Orlando/Disney in December.

Where I live, people have their 5 year olds in strollers. We walk a lot here. I’d pick up a used city mini gtThe cmgt has one of the highest seat backs and they last forever. The cmgts fabric can be snapped off and thrown in the wash. I borrowed a friends that was secondhand and gross and tossed it in the wash and it came out looking like new. The stroller was 6 years old.
It’s also fairly travel friendly for a full sized stroller

The only time my 5yo needs a stroller is when we go to Disney once a year. We only have a single stroller for my 3yo, so we just rent a double when we are there from a company in Orlando. It’s super easy because they drop it off and pick it up at the hotel. The bonus is I don’t have to lug a stroller through the airport.

If I really needed one more frequently though I would have invested in a double. But at 5 she can walk everything else that we do - the zoo, park, even hikes.

When our DD was 5, we "tried" to get away with a stroller for the same use as you wish to but, ultimately, had to give in to purchasing a toddler wagon. We had one that folded up and had a seat and extra storage for her mini backpack and my purse which was great for trips to the beach, amusement parks, craft fairs and anywhere in which we anticipated tons of walking.
Here are a few ideas:

Hubby and I were discussing today whether it would be ridiculous to buy a new stroller that’s weight rated for an older kid. Our daughter is 5, and we’re looking at a bunch of trips next year, including Disney, where I know we’ll be walking big distances. When we did Disney in February, we brought our old umbrella stroller, which is way too small for her now, but it helped get us through some big distances in the park, and someone recommended a version that goes to 55 lbs.

But she’s 5, and I’m wondering if I’m going to run into major bystander judgement if we use a stroller occasionally. Or if I’m doing her any harm/disservice by using one? This is literally just for anywhere we’d have big distances, and honestly is more for me, because I have a back problem and can’t really carry her if she gets tired out. Thoughts?
