Last night was his first night sleeping on a flat surface. It went better than expected sleep wise but he wouldn't keep his head to the left so he slept on his flat spot. I can see where sleeping in the RNP stopped him from stretching his neck muscles all the way so I think he will benefit from sleeping flat no matter what.

We tried repositioning, reversing him in the crib and putting a towel under the flat side in his bouncer,
Car seat etc., gave him lots of tummy time. Unfortunately for us, none of it worked and he ended up getting a helmet. Our insurance completely covered it so it wasn't a hard decision in that sense but it was a bit upsetting. Fortunately he took to the helmet really well and the spot has dramatically improved so it was worth it. Our case was pretty severe though so I hope that the repositioning works for you!

I realized he liked to turn inwards towards the center of the room. I just switched his head and feet, which made him lie on the other side.

Here's my post on it: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/our-journey-with-plagiocephaly

We ended up with a helmet.
Let me know if you gave any questions.

Like Googley-Eyes said...you can try towel rolls and encouraging her head the other way, but in my experience, babies end up sleeping how they want to sleep.

Dd has brachio and plagiocephaly and we used towels to try to keep her away from that side before she was rolling but it didn't work. Even if her body faced one way her head always went the other. We decided not to do the helmet because insurance wouldn't cover it. Plus part of it was genetic...I learned I also have a flat spot. Now that she's getting hair it's not a big deal to us.

DS is almost 8 weeks old and has been diagnosed with torticollis and plagiocephaly (happened at 4 weeks old). Hes been to PT twice and we start going weekly now. Of course they did the normal of teaching us the stretches, discussed positioning, etc. Right now he sleeps in a RnP and we are switching to the PnP tonight to start the transition to crib by 3 months.

Here is my question - how did you position your LOs head while he is sleeping. I know DS will automatically turn his head to the right where his flat spot is.
