I have taken plenty of time off though over the last year. I only work part-time so I just finagle my schedule to make it work. At my most recent salaried job, we had unlimited paid time off, but most people barely took any time at all. I only took one true vacation in my 1.5 years working there. I worked my butt off to get things set up so I could actually unplug during my vacation. DH gets 8 weeks a year. He hasn't been able to use any yet, as he just changed careers in the same field. But, he will once we're more established. I also get 2 personal days which don't roll over (so I use those first). My workplace is also closed for all major holidays, and a few extra here & there (so ~12-13 total). I haven't taken any vacation yet (been here less than a year) but when I do I certainly won't be checking my email :silly: My boss is also very relaxed, and will only make me use vacation/sick leave if I'm gone for 1/2 day or more. I also get 3 personal days and 1 extra vacation day this year because it's a milestone year, so this year I get 27 days off + holidays + unlimited sick hours. I try not to work if I am on vacation. If I'm sick but working from home, I only use PTO if I don't put in a full day's work. Tomorrow I think I'll be staying home because DS is sick. I'll probably use PTO because he needs to much attention to actually get work done. We're allowed to roll over 5 days per year and sometimes we get a few extra days for the next year as a bonus. I check emails while I'm off but don't usually do work. DH has a super flexible job with no fixed number of days off which seems amazing but he actually takes far less time off that I do. Burnout is pretty real in my field. My DH also gets 3 weeks but the culture is not to actually take it. Its paid, and we also get 17.5% leave loading. -11 days sick leave. If you don't take it during the year it gets paid out end of year with annual leave. -All public holidays (New Year, Australia Day, Labour Day, Easter Break, Anzac Day, Queens Bday, Melbourne Cup and Xmas Day/Boxing Day). -Rostered Days Off (usually one per 4 weeks if you've worked 40 hour weeks) they almost always before or after a public holiday to make an extra long weekend. We work for ourselves, so basically if we need emergency time off we take it... hubby has been running around like crazy for me shuttling DD back and forth to grannies as I've been ill, and also leaves for a few hours if I need to go to the doctor. We do get up to three "personal days" a year (which do not roll over) and, I think, nine sick days (which do roll over). My DH used to work for a very small company with no defined vacation policy. It did not work so well there, as the boss would often give three or four day weekends with little or no notice, and then feel like that was "time off", although there was no real opportunity to actually take a vacation with a half day's notice. Requests to take time off with advance notice were pretty much always granted, but not without some attitude. It wasn't totally healthy. We also get a yearly performance award if we perform well and can take it as either cash or time off, I always choose the time and get an extra week. I try not to use all my leave, though, because it's the only way we can get paid during maternity leave. Still not sure if we're going to have a second baby but I want to keep some time in the bank just in case! This is in addition to sick leave, parental leave, maternity leave, compassionate leave etc. No, I don't feel compelled to check email while I'm off! I'm not that important ;)
