@DesertDreams88: They price match so sometimes I would find something in the store, look it up on Amazon and then bring it to customer service for a price match so I could get it immediately. I don't think they advertised that well though which was probably part of their downfall.

I would go to BRU to use up gift cards, learn about new products, and then buy them on Amazon bc the price was always SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper.....

We just went for the first time last summer. I'm a little sad about the stores closing, but the times I went to BRU, there were never enough check-out people and it took forever to get anything from the back (they actually lost my online order).

My tru is a dump. The employees are not nice and not helpful. Tru is another retail victim...it’s sad but they made a lot of mistakes from a financial viewpoint and saddled themselves with a lot of debt. I’m sad for the (good) employees who are losing their jobs but the company was mismanaged and run into the ground. I say this all as someone who is married to a bankruptcy restructuring professional.

I didn’t have toys r us growing up so we don’t have a sentimental attachment to it. We have a smaller chain called KayBee toys (I even worked at in high school!) went out of business about a decade ago and I thought that was sad. But I am sad for my convenience sake because we don’t have a Buy-buy baby that is convenient. And toys are us always had great selection. Our store was huge and didn’t have great customer service, but it was still super convenient.

I'm super sad by this.

We have 2 ToysRUs's near our home and both of them are nice. We go there fairly often and the kids (obviously) love it! We always went for special occasions (potty training incentive, anyone?) and I don't know if there's anything to replace that. They have so much more than target does, and different stuff that you can't find everywhere.

As for BabiesRUS - I find this even more devastating, but that's probably because I have 2 kids that are still young. We have 3 bru's near us (although 1 recently closed) and go there all the time. Target doesn't have anywhere near the selection of baby products that bru does. I guess I'm glad that I'm done having kids and won't need them for much longer.

I took my kids (5 and 2.5) for the first time this weekend to buy gifts for birthday parties. I took them because they had never been to a toy store and I figured they should have that experience. I had only been to Toys R Us one other time since the kids were born to use gift cards. The line to check out was 25 minutes long.

I’m employed by a retailer and it’s pretty scary right now. It’s hard to beat the convience, selection, and price of Amazon.

We registered at BRU and it was an awful experience. Like others have said, the TRU and BRU by us are completely run down, unorganized, barely have anyone working there, and have one cashier open at all times. I've been wondering how they've stayed afloat this long. With how expensive everything was there, I'm not all that sad to see them go either.

It is not looking good for Toys R' Us. We have actually never taken DS there to shop (he's 2.5) but we registered at Babies R' Us and were shopping there recently for LO #2. Target is terrible for registries IMO since each store has a different selection and they change out items so frequently. Love Buy Buy Baby as a supplement but can be overwhelming the way the store is set up.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I KNOW - and I am still mourning the loss of FAO Schwartz - my happy place as a child!! What is happening?! Amazon is running real toy stores out of business or what?? Sad.

@looch: Totally agree.
The stores by us look run down and are understaffed. They sometimes have decent sales, but items are generally more expensive than elsewhere. The only time we go there is when the kids have gift cards to spend.

I think they're ruling this week whether they are going into liquidation or can keep bankruptcy status...

I don't really go to toyrus/babiesrus. Between Target/Amazon, I'm pretty set. Probably why they're in trouble!

The one by my house has terrible customer service when you go in the store...the lines are super long, there are few cash registers open, there's always a long wait when you need to get an item from the back, etc. The website is terrible, I can go on and on.

I think the only thing that kept them hanging on for so long is the baby registry.

Oh, that's sad... The rumors have been around for a while, but that's a lot of people who will lose their jobs. We have two huge stores just in our neighborhood. Went to one of them last week precisely for this reason (had to use up gift cards), and all the staff were so nice even though they must have known what's coming and must be so stressed.

Although, in a way, the closure is not surprising. A lot of what they sell is cheaper elsewhere, and we really struggled to figure out what we need that they have. If we didn't have the gift cards, I'm 99% sure we wouldn't have gone there at all.

I'm sad to see them close. It's such a fun place for kids to shop. It also made me wonder what new expectant moms will do without Babies R Us. Target just doesn't have as good of a selection. We have a few Buy Buy Baby stores in our area, but they aren't as convenient and are higher in price. I'm glad we're already past that stage because Babies R Us was a great resource for us.

That made me sad when I read it. DH and I like to take the kids to toys r us to pick out presents. I realize I’m the minority. But we didn’t get to do that as kids so we liked taking our kids. It is the end of an era.
