@PinkElephant: I do the same- anything chokeable like teeny pieces to her Calico Critter house/ Barbie shoes/ etc. live in my room and DD has to ask for them and put them ALL away immediately when she is done (usually I let her leave out whatever she is playing with before meals/ bedtime since she often wants to go back to her game). Our baby isn't old enough to be mobile yet but I wanted to set a firm standard for choking hazard toys.

I'd say kitchen table or in his room if he'll play in there by himself.

My youngest is not mobile yet but in preparation for it, we moved all the toys with small pieces upstairs to the bedrooms.

We did the dining table until DD3 was nine months and would climb up there.
Now my oldest has a small desk in the office and she'll go up there on her own throughout the day. I think she likes having the space to herself.

My 4 year old plays with Legos at the dining room table. Most other toys with small parts have been confiscated because they're too hard to corral.

@Mamaof2: yeah he decided to play with some Legos on the dining room table. I guess I'll just encourage that.

They (DDs 4.5 and 2.5) can play with them in their bedroom, or while the baby is sleeping. And for things I'm particularly concerned about as choking hazards, they're kept in little clear Sterilite containers, up high, and the girls have to ask me for them first.

Yea we did the same, DD could play with those toys at the kitchen table (until DS learned to climb up there at 15 months) and then after that she could play with them in her room with the door shut or at a higher pub table we have.

I use DS's dislike of DD running off with his toys to get him to clean up :silly: Well, that and he knows that if he leaves small pieces out she might eat one. Not that he always remembers, I have to chew him out now and then about leaving out game pieces and Lego bits.

My oldest is almost 4 and he got lots of fun toys for Christmas that he wants to play with. Things like Legos, little playsets, games etc. I want him to be able to play with them, too! But I also have a mobile one-year-old who is in everything, and is driving my son crazy grabbing all of his toys. We have basically said that he can only play with those things while the little one is napping or sleeping. But I feel bad because it's such a short amount of time that the little one is asleep when the oldest is awake. Does anyone have another suggestion?
