@Lilbear: yay for great news. Babies and toddlers often surprise us with how well they can behave. I stress out like crazy wheneevr my DS needs to get his kidney scans but he always surprises me all the time.

So it turns out that the magna doodle, coloring book, and iPad were enough to entertain her! We broke out the puzzle this morning, just to mix it up. We staggered what we gave her, so we would have something new and exciting once she started acting stir crazy. She has no idea that we had other toy options waiting on deck! Meanwhile, I now have a few new toys that I haven't even opened and never got to use, sooooo I'm just going to consider them to be in the early Christmas shopping category!

My DD is very active, so we were shocked by how calm and well behaved she was while being confined to a bed for a few days. I think there are already a lot of distractions in a hospital, and she was often tired due to getting less sleep at night (thanks to the regular vitals checks and noisy environment). On the healthcare side of things, she passed her testing with flying colors and we are cautiously optimistic about finally "graduating" from dealing with a chronic illness!

Thank you all again so much for your suggestions and well wishes!

Does she have one of those trays on her bed? I read a good suggestion today to tape Saran Wrap down onto a solid surface and then you can fingerprint on it, the same site suggested using pudding or cool whip with food colouring instead of paint.

Thank you again for all of these great suggestions! We are partway through day #1 in the hospital, and she seems do be doing well with the bed restriction! Tomorrow is going to be the toughest day though, since she won't have any breaks. 😟 good thing I am armed with great toys to distract her!

Thank you so much for all of your well wishes too! We are all looking forward to this being over.

My son thought this book was really fun when he was two (and he still likes it): The Game of Light, by Herve Tullet.

You don't have to buy the book; you could totally do cut-outs like this in a few minutes with scissors and cardboard to make your own shadow book and shadow puppets. :) All you need is a flashlight.

I hope you are all doing well!

@Lilbear: Melissa & Doug makes cute magnetic dress up dolls (like paper dolls but they are magnets) in addition to all the other suggestions what about other craft type activities? Crayola has color wonder markers and we just got some of the color wonder finger paint (no mess!) but haven't tried it yet. You can usually find lots of stickers, foam craft kits, and paint with water etc at the dollar store. If she enjoys books would she like one of the eye spy type books where you have to find things on each page. I think they make those at preschool level. I hope everything goes well. I will be thinking of your family! ❤️

A new duplo set aimed at something she likes (like for DS I would get an animal themed duplo set or car themed)
Books with noisy/interactive buttons
Endless Alphabet and Endless Numbers apps
Model Magic
Felt board
A little photo album and pictures of people or places she likes that she can put together in the order she wants and then you can chat about it
Flashlight (turn lights off and play with it)
Little prism (hang it in the window and look at the rainbows/pretend to catch/eat them)
Color Magic finger paint
Visits from adults she likes?
Time consuming snacks (like bring celery, pb, and mini chocolate chips and have her help you assemble ants on a log, etc)
Small marble run
Make shakers by decorating toilet paper tubes then filling them with beans and duct taping closed, then sing songs
Put some paint in a gallon zip and let her squish it around/draw on it. Use multiple colors so she can watch them mix.
Pipe cleaners, she can loop them around and twist closed to make them into a chain. It will take some time and effort at that age but so much the better!

When my nephew was in the hospital the nurses brought bubbles for parents to blow when they did something (blood draw, shots). My nephew wasn't mobile though. Not sure if that would frustrate your LO.

My LO liked those seek and find books for the plane at that age. Like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1450840809/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?qid=1442771966&sr=8-7&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=elmo+look+and+find+book&dpPl=1&dpID=51EmYiPTEQL&ref=plSrch

We will be spending 2.5 days in the hospital this week with our 29 month old DD. she will be wired to an EEG machine for that entire time, and therefore confined to her hospital bed. I am trying to brainstorm activities for her, as she is a very active kid. So far I have coloring books/crayons, 12 piece jigsaw puzzle, Minnie Mouse toy that can change outfits and fits in her own car, wooden beeds with string set, floam, and an iPad for cartoons & educational apps.

Does anyone have any additional ideas on ways to entertain her during this time? I know (due to previous hospital stays of the same nature) that they have toys already at the hospital that they let the kids use during their stay. However, in the past, she was only 7 & 9 month old for these visits, so the lack of mobility & crib confinement made it much easier!

Any advice is appreciated!
