Just reviving this thread for a moment because we had an Isis sleep consult last night and this was the plan we came up with. We are excited to start this and finally get some sleep! For anyone interested, here is a video of a webinar on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fs5D3dNbXxI

We kind of do a variation on this, if I know that Miss A has been fed, changed and burped and is just being a punk, I pick her up once, cuddle her then lie her in her cot and stroke her head until she drops off.

We've been doing it, but I didn't realize it was a "thing!" Just felt like we were always taking the next step.
Granted, sometimes we still have to revert to rocking...shhing isn't always 100%. But yeah...it works! :-) GL!

We have basically been doing this slowly as a part of the no cry sleep solution. He now goes to sleep on his own at night and if he wakes he usually can be patted in his crib instead of being picked up and rocked. We do have gas issues though so until those are resolved I usually pick up if he looks uncomfortable since half the time he lets out a burp and passes out.

We did this with one of the babies/toddlers I took care of and it worked pretty well for us. It was a long process-- mainly because we didn't push it at all, and there was some back and forth occasionally due to traveling or teething but overall it was pretty painless. I think that if you are looking to avoid cio and are not looking for an instant fix (not that one really exists) it should work nicely.

I did it and it worked great! I did it my own way but used these principles. It took us three nights to get to a point where we could leave the room and she would fall asleep on her own. Before that, we held her hand, her foot, anything while she was in her crib and rocked her or held her if she got too upset. I LOVED this approach and definitely suggest it. We did it at 7-8 months.

I recently watched the webinar from ISIS parenting about trading down sleep associations - the idea is you go from nursing to rocking, rocking to patting, patting to shushing...

Just wondering has anyone tried this? I'm interested in any alternative to CIO, but it seems like it will be a VERY gradual process.
