Thanks everyone. I do think it is a habit and not a true hunger (and he's a big baby) so I think I will give it a whirl with a train-it-out tonight. Winniebee, it is true that I will not feel so happy about the nightwakings when I go back to work....it is a main reason that I was considering trying to train. And Mrs. Bee, I only just read your sleep training 'age timing' chart this past week. But I guess a 'not ideal' time is better than an even worse time.

i was ok with 2 wakings at that age too. but it was so easy to train out the first waking, i wish i'd done it sooner. i would train it out before the 9 month regression hits, then again bed timing says 8 months is not a good time to train....

I would say that if you plan to go back to work (and I know you do in a few months), try to get down to one night waking. Even one night waking when you've gotta get up at 5 or 6 for the day (and be out of the house) can be exhausting. So if you can eliminate at least 1 before the 1 year mark, I'd try.

That's great that he doesn't need your intervention during those wake ups!

Would you consider moving nursing earlier in your bedtime routine so he doesn't fall asleep and you can put him down drowsy or awake? If he falls asleep on his own he may drop the nightwakings too.

Have you done CIO at the 11:30 feeding? My LO was waking up like clockwork at 10 p.m. so I let him CIO a few times (5 mins crying) and now he sleeps through the night. I feel like he was waking up out of habit not because he was really hungry. But that was just my circumstance.

@Sammyfab: He falls asleep nursing at bedtime, then he will probably wake up and go back to sleep 3 times before 11:30, most of them he just talks a bit and goes back to sleep, sometimes he cries, but not for very long.

I would train through it but that's because I have a really hard time falling back asleep when I'm woken up. Also, although I hate generalizing anything in reference to babies, at 9 months, most babies are down to 1 feed (unless he is really starving at these 2 feeds?).

Is he falling asleep on his own? How often does he wake up before 11:30?

I would wait just a couple of nights since he slept through it once. My LO takes a coup,e of nights to get into a new groove. If he doesn't do it again, train.

LO is almost 9 months old. He sleeps 7 to 7 and wakes up to nurse at 11:30, 3am (and sometimes 5).

We do cry it out to get through any nightwakings before 11:30, and the number of those varies. So, I'm not 'opposed' to sleep training. At the same time, my lifestyle is okay with nursing at 11:30 and 3am. So I'm a bit on the fence about if I should make him drop the 11:30am feeding. Two nights ago I was all *ready* to train it out of him and then BAM he slept through it. So last night I thought he'd maybe sleep through it again, but it came back.
