Awesome! Thanks for the info and examples! S let me know he was ready for a nap after 3 1/2 hours, so he is down now, and it has been a fairly long nap.

His normal routine is this:
9:30 - Wake up
11:30-1:00 - Nap
4:30-6:00 - Nap
10:00 - Bed time

Today so far has been:
9:30 - Wake up
1:00- ~3:00 - Nap
I am thinking we will just keep him up, then put him to bed at 8:30/9:00 and see if I can push his nap a but later tomorrow.

I know his daycare (he starts in 3 weeks) does a 1-3pm nap, but he will be waking up earlier then, so I will have to work on extending his first awake period.

DS just transitioned a few weeks ago. I knew he was ready to drop his nap when it would take over an hour for him to go down for his second nap of the day. He'd go down fine in the morning, sleep for an hour, but four hours later he'd fight me to go back to sleep. I just cold turkey switched him one day, and it took him about one week to fully transition. He's been on the one nap schedule for about 3.5 weeks but today we're back on two naps since he's sick and wants to sleep more. Before, our schedule looked like:

6:00 wake up
9:00-10:00 first nap
1:00-2:30/3:00 second nap
7:00/7:30 bedtime
(1-2 night wakings)

Now our schedule looks like:
7:30 wake up
12:00-3:00/3:30 nap
7:00 bedtime

During the transition to daycare, LO's schedule looked like this:

8am wakeup
12-1pm nap (at daycare)
4:00pm nap (at home)
7:30pm bedtime

Then she started fighting the 4pm nap so we would just skip it and i would put her to bed at 7pm. That then caused 3am wakeups, so i moved up her bedtime to 6:30pm.

Her schedule is now:
7am wakeup
12-2pm nap (at daycare)
6:30pm bedtime

She's been on 1 nap without issues since 11 months.

My LO starting fighting his afternoon nap around 12 months. I didn't think he was ready to transition since he still went down easily for his morning nap (around 10 or 10:30 after waking around 7). So I started to limit that morning nap to 45 mins. or an hour max. Then he was usually tired enough to take an afternoon nap around 2 or 3.

When he started fighting the nap again, at 15 months, we switched cold turkey. I started keeping up until noon, and then I pushed it to 1. Key was keeping him really active during that transition period (and NOT allowing any mid-morning snoozes in the car, which can still be dicey). Now he generally naps from 1 to 3 every day ... sometimes until 4 if he's super tired. Wake-up is around 7, and bedtime is usually around 8.

My son took 2 naps until about 20 months, but I could tell he was ready to drop the morning nap and just do a longer afternoon nap when he was really having a difficult time getting down for the morning nap and it was getting later and shorter.

His wake up and bedtimes remained the same, 6 am and 7 pm.

We JUST did the transition last week, right as C turned 1. Our schedule used to look like this:

8:30am- Wake up
110:30am- Nap
2:30- Nap
6:30- Bedtime

She was doing the same thing, playing for up to an hour before falling asleep for a nap. We finally took the plunge and her schedule look like this now:

8:30- wakeup
12:30- nap
6:30- bedtime

She did go from taking 2 1-1.5 hour naps to taking 1 2-2.5 hour naps, which is good I guess.

S is going to be 1 in 2 1/2 weeks, and I think he is showing signs of wanting to transition to 1 nap.

We were doing the 2-3-4 routine for the past 5 months, and it was working well, but lately S will play in his crib for up to an hour (or sometimes more) before taking his nap, which really throws off when bedtime lands.

Now, over the weekend we noticed that regardless of when he wakes up, and when and how long nap #1 is, he wants to take a nap at 4:30 PM (bedtime is about 10pm).

Right now he has been up for 3 hours since starting our day, and is still playing happily on the floor, so I think I am going to see how it goes.

How did your LO transition to 1 nap, and what does his 1 nap routine "look" like?
