Update: When I posted this 4 weeks ago we didn't make it very far due to his reflux. Back in the RnP he went.

We're attempting the transition again and any help or advice would be welcomed! He's just over 3 months (14 weeks) now.

We started last night. We'd had his RnP in his own room for several nights beforehand so he'd be used to his room, and he slept fine those nights. We have a wedge under the crib sheet, and made a snuggle nest with a beach towel. But last night did NOT go well. He nursed to sleep and slept for 30 minutes, nursed to sleep again and slept for 45 minutes, then was up and would not go back down in the crib without screaming. He was awake and crying for another 2 hours before we were able to rock him back to sleep in our arms and put him in the RnP.

He's still swaddled, but we've had 1 arm out of his swaddle for 2 weeks now when we discovered that it helped him sleep longer. We tried 2 arms out a few nights ago, but he's not ready for that yet.

Should we just keep trying and hope each night gets better? I don't really want to wait on the crib any longer, as I know it will only get harder as he gets older, and he starts daycare in 3 weeks and will need to sleep in a crib there. I'm keeping him in the RnP for naps right now to ensure he gets some sleep during the day.

@Kbee: both. Hard for me to determine until she's eating whether or not she really needs to eat. last night I fed her at 11:30 and then didn't when she woke at 2:30am. She was rent back to see in her own within 10 mins with virtually no crying and woke again at 4:30am when I fed her. I think she can easily go four hours so I'm going to try doing this consistently and see if it helps with the extra night wakings. She's on the small side though, so I've been hesitant not to feed her until now (she's 6 months).

@bushelandapeck: Yeah these nights can be really hard, both physically and mentally! Does she wake because she's hungry or she just wakes up?

@Kbee: Wonderful!! Sounds like you're on the right track! DD has only slept a 6 hour stretch twice in her entire life-haha. I'm hopeful that it will improve soon but fear that I may need to consider sleep training in the coming weeks. I am just so tired!

@bushelandapeck: Thank you for this suggestion! I read through that blog post last night and we did try propping the pack 'n play (we're actually starting with the bassinet in pack 'n play instead of the crib since his nursery is upstairs and I'm not wanting to go upstairs in the middle of the night yet). We didn't try the snugglenest.

Here's what we did last night: We rocked him in our arms and put him in the PnP asleep. We figure we can remove the "rock to sleep in our arms" sleep crutch when he's older - first things first! He woke up pretty quickly when we put him down, and we gave it 3 tries of picking up/consoling and rocking/putting down. We ended up going back to the RnP. But, we decided to try it without the rocker on so that we could at least work on removing the "constant rocking" crutch. And lo and behold - he slept! Without the RnP rocking at all! A 6 hour stretch followed by a 3 hour stretch, which is actually one of his best nights yet. So we might do this for a few days, then move on to getting him to sleep on a flat, open surface.

Headed to try to get a few hours in before she wakes up but I will check back in tomorrow and explain it more if you need me to.

We are just transitioning DD and she's 6 months. We aren't rocking to sleep though so it may be a bit different. I popped the crib, rolled a towel underneath the sheet, and have her in the zippadee zip. I also have one of those minky sheets that feels similar to the RNP. Sounds like a lot but it was the only way she would sleep in the crib. This is night two and I plan to lower the crib and move the rolled towel away from her a little bit every few days until she's fully flat, without anything. I read this somewhere on a blog and it seems to be working so far!

Our LO is 9.5 weeks and has been sleeping in his RnP every night since our 2nd night home from the hospital and for most of his naps. We need to transition him to the crib soon, but we're terrified!

I think we've got ourselves into a little pickle because we have one of the auto RnPs and now he only sleeps while it's rocking - he'll wake up when it stops rocking. Also, at night I nurse him before bed which pretty much puts him to sleep (or super drowsy), and for him to take a nap, we have to rock him in our arms a bit to get him super drowsy or lightly asleep.

So basically he only sleeps after being nursed to sleep, or after being rocked by us, and will only stay asleep if the rocker is on. We swaddle him for all sleep, and in the past, on a flat surface he's been able to roll onto his side while in the swaddle - so that presents another complication for the crib.

Does anyone have advice on how to make this transition easier?
