@peaches1038: @MrsADS:
So right after I posted there was a night that LO kind of fell asleep while nursing. I put him I. The crib, already swaddled in his miracle blanket, and left. He slept about 6 hours.
I did the same thing the next night even though he wasn't totally asleep and he slept 8 hours. He's 4 month today and he's sleeping a solid 8-10 hours most nights. Very smooth transition that we really just lucked out on. He's basically the easiest baby ever.
He started busting out of the miracle blanket this week, so I'm thinking our days with that are numbered!
Good luck!

@MrsADS: I've been trying the crib for naps for the past couple days and it's the same as your LO. He will sleep for 5 min max in the crib! He will fall back asleep as soon as I pick him back up.

Following again... my DS is 4 months and still in the RnP (!!!). I feel terrible about it. We keep trying the crib. We'll sometimes get lucky and he will sleep 30 minutes in the crib. Often it's 2-3 minutes or immediately awake. He's having an issue with his legs. His legs are up at an angle and supported in the RnP. It's like he doesn't know what to do with his legs in the crib. He immediately sticks them in the air and then flops around - like he misses the support under his legs. I don't know what to do!

He also is still suffering a lot with bad reflux and GI issues which really affects his sleep, so I haven't pushed the transition issue too much - any sleep he gets we are grateful for and he's so much more comfortable in the RnP. But it gives me anxiety that he is going to be in the RnP forever!

@CarrieLouWho: how did you transition go? My DS will be 8 weeks on Sunday and I'm wondering if I should switch him to the crib before I go back to work in a month. Like your LO, mine is a fantastic sleeper overnight (last night he slept 10-6!) and I'm afraid to mess with it!!

We added an incline wedge under his matress. Then we took blankets and rolled them up and surrounded DS to make it feel like he was snug in bed (then went under his sheets).

DS is 8 weeks and we just started putting him in the crib 3 days ago. DD is still in the RnP. DS has been suffering from painful gas and we noticed he likes laying flat.

Not sure when we'll get DD to be in the crib.

My LO also slept in RnP for first 8 Wks, then I tried to transition to the crib. It did not go well! The first couple nights were decent, but then it got progressively worse and I threw in the towel. I'm waiting a few more weeks to try again. However when we moved her back to our room I replaced the RNP with the bassinet attachment from my stroller. So now she is in the same exact spot but skeeping flat! It's been going great. She was waking up uncomfortable in the RnP often and that doesn't happen now. I'm not sure when I'm going to try the crib transition again tho!

I kept my kid in the rock and play way too long.... 6 months (we coslept until then) but our transition to the crib only took one weekend. First night was terrible hours to settle. Second night was only like 2 hours. Third night it was over with and he slept through the night much better than in the rock and play.

My son actually slept better in his crib than the RNP. So maybe there's that. We swaddled him in the Halo sleepsack and we had his PNP foam mattress and crib mattress elevated with a flat pillow for his reflux so that might help in terms of the transition too - to elevate it a tad. He was out of his swaddle by 10-11 weeks and we lowered the mattress by 5-6 months but it was no transition by then. We also started a sleep routine at that age (two songs, prayer, mommy loves you night night with white noise machine in a dark room) so it would establish a cue in his head. We still do it at 14 months.

I'd do it while you're still on leave! As far as what works, that's tough because it varies so greatly! For my oldest we did a loose swaddle (since sucking on his hand/thumb was how he soothed) and a kinky sheet that asked to make a big difference since it replicated the RnP material. Then we just had to start being okay with letting him fuss for a bit - sometimes it would just take him a few minutes of fussing to get comfy and fall asleep, and us going in just riled him up.

My second little one was super difficult. He broke out of every swaddle ever, even the ones that seem physically impossible - he broke the zipper of multiple zipadeezips! But u swaddled he flailed everywhere. I so missed the way the RnP kinda cradled him. Eventually we settled on the Magic Merlin suit and things were still far from perfect, but it helped. He was a tough sleeper all around though - sounds like you've got a pretty good sleeper like my oldest was/is!

@CarrieLouWho: I think the swaddle helped us. Yeah, with both kids I sort of weaned down the rocking to the point where I was just placing them down in the rock'n'play at night - sort of treating it like a crib. Then when we made the transition to the crib it wasn't that much of a change.

@Ajsmommy: that sounds like a good plan. I've been using the swing or RnP for naps, so I'll try the PnP for the next week for naps to transition. Good idea!

@MrsF: yes, we still swaddle with the miracle wrap. I'll keep using until he starts rolling over since that's what we did for DD and it worked.
I use the rock just to get him settled at night. He's still awake but drowsy but the rocking helps. Do you think I should stop to help with the transition? The battery ran out on the vibration so we haven't used that for the last week, so that's a start at least!

@CarrieLouWho: Is he still swaddled? I think that helped our transition a lot because he was still in a tight cozy swaddle. Are you using the rocking function of the RNP or just sort of using it as a bassinet?

DD slept in rnp for her first 2 months of life next to my bed and also in rnp for naps in the living room. I started transitioning her for naps into the pack n play b/c it was flat. so she could get used to it. I did that for about one week and at first it was hard. she didn't nap nearly as long as she did in the rnp but I stuck with it and by the end of the week she was fine napping flat. I than transitioned her into her crib at night. It was easier for her than for me!!

@MrsADS: We swaddled LO1 until she started rolling over, so you have time for that!

I'm also worried about him getting a flat head. I just need to bite the bullet but I dread it if his good sleep goes away!

Following, I hope others post! DS is 9 weeks and sleeps exclusively in the RnP (in the nursery for naps, our room for night). He has bad reflux so we're going to have to do a crib wedge and also probably put blocks under one side to elevate even more. But I worry the older he gets, the harder the transition will be. His head is getting really flat in the back which I think is from sleeping in the RnP

Also he's still totally swaddled... not sure when we need to change that... but he still wakes himself up if he's unswaddled.

LO2 is 8 weeks old today. He's been sleeping in the Rock n Play every night. We just moved him from our room to his nursery 4 nights ago and it's been going really well. He's been sleeping 6-8 hours stretches (still in the RnP) which is great... I mean awesome!
So, my question is - I have 4 weeks left of maternity leave. Should I go ahead and move DA to his crib now while I can deal with sleep deprivation?
Any tips on how to deal with transitioning from the RnP to a crib? I'm really dreading it...
