@Aimed: I think we have a texture issue too. I'll have to talk to our pediatrician about it!

I stopped offering additional carbs (like puffy style things) after he started what I considered reasonable amounts of table foods. If I felt he had had enough I would not offer it.
BUT if Xander still eats it, after he had table foods then he's probably still hungry so maybe give it to him a little longer until he fully gets into table foods.

Also I know I sound like a broken record ;) but what really helped was when we started throwing our schedule around to accommodate a family dinner. He still eats more and is more adventurous if I/we eat together with him. It was quite an act because before DH and I just ate once LO was in bed. It was definitely worth it though.

@Adira: So we had this problem with our LO (15m), it was a big deal because he really wasn't eating anything substantial and it was preventing him from progressing to the next class in his daycare. We spoke to our ped and she recommended Early Intervention which we did. I'm not sure if your case is the same as ours but it seems that our LO has a texture issue nad we just have to work through it.
Some suggestions they gave us that you could try are presenting a food he likes in different ways to mix it up a little, for foods he won't eat, put them on his table regularly and let him touch it with a spoon, work up to him touching it, kissing it, licking it and then tasting it. I know that it seems like a lot but it is helping in our case. Not sure if your LO has the same hang up with food but thought it might be of some help as our LO was doing the exact same thing (and still does to some extent!)
Also they said, and this was hard for me! - not to make mealtime a big deal, put no pressure on it, if he doesn't eat, he doesn't eat - just let it be - that was a tough one for me but I think it can become a control issue and that only makes it worse of course!
Best of luck with it!

I would stop offering the crackers/carbs if you don't want him filling up on them...I know that if E sees the puffs, she doesn't want to eat. But if i hide them, she has no problem eating her table foods. Out of sight, out of mind. And offer small amounts or a couple of bites off your fork. Sometimes i feel like she has to taste it before she digs in herself.

It takes about 15 exposures to a food before they take to it (if they're going to) so you just have to keep offering. i don't know how many times i offered broccoli before she started to eat it (and even then, not plain/steamed broccoli)

For purees, it just happened naturally for us. She just started eating more table food, less purees, and finally i stopped offering them because we were wasting food.

LO has been eating whole foods since we started solids and she's a pretty good eater, but I know even if I give her the same stuff, it tastes better from mama's plate! Maybe try eating meals with him on your lap and let him eat from your plate.

We've had a lot of luck with offering her new foods in very tiny amounts mixed with things she knows and likes. We use a bento box, but an ice cube tray would work great too!

R was eating great till the last month or so. Now it is hard to get her to eat anything but carbs, fruit, and cheese. I would just offer table foods, maybe a pouch, but I wouldn't feed him anymore.

Oh- I should add that we've definitely been making more "baby friendly" meals. Pasta with pea, spinach or broccoli pesto is something we do weekly, and ensures lots of veggies! Shredded sweet potato, beet, and carrot sauteed in a bit of olive oil. Quesadilla with beans, spinach and cheese. We just cut everything into smallish pieces or strips that she can grab and chew on.
She ate almost a whole veggie burger and broccoli pancake on Friday- I just put a little ketchup on both.

My LO is 13m and goes through phases of being more or less interested in table food. Is there a reason to stop the purées?

LO is good with grains too but I try to offer those last (though sometimes he gets a handful of puffs while I'm prepping his meal). We have had some luck with fully cooked ready-to-eat fajita strips in chicken and beef, they have flavorful seasonings (but not spicy!) he is much more receptive to those, cut up in teeny tiny bites. But, he still doesn't eat much, maybe three little bites. But three little bites at two meals is better than nothing! (He will eat three strips for daddy though!)

I found a pasta that is made with veggies so we do that quite a bit, he wasn't a fan at first, but if I eat the same thing and feed him from my plate and my silverware, he's way into it. Sometimes I'll dump some veggie purée on the pasta too. Any time he can get REALLY messy with his meals, he eats like a beast.

My husband has way, way better luck feeding him table foods than me (I think it's because I nurse) and daycare has even better luck, so here lately, I haven't even given him table foods for dinner. He just nurses. I was worried that that wouldn't be enough, but on nights I do offer table foods, he usually doesn't eat anything but a few puffs.

If I don't sit there and watch him, sometimes he'll gobble everything down. I don't know why lol but that trick works somedays!

We transitioned at 7 months, so it was different because she'd just eat whatever we gave her....but if it was me I'd just give him whatever is for the meal, and that's that. It balances out over time, some days T barely touches a vegetable, other days she shovels them in. So I try not to worry. If she doesn't eat much, she doesn't eat much. I try really hard not to give her a pouch even if she barely touches dinner, because I think it kind of reinforces her not eating what we are all having. I do occasionally give her pouches for snack, mostly if we are out and about though
I'd try eating together as a family as much as possible, and giving him what you are eating. Most of the time I put the food directly on her tray, but have found that putting it in a bowl and giving her a fork or spoon will help her get interested in something she is otherwise ignoring,
It sounds kind of mean, but my opinion is that if she's hungry she will eat. And I'm not going to get in the habit of preparing special meals, so she will set what we are having.
The one thing I do that maybe counters this, is give her a small amount of cows milk- maybe 2 ounces- if we are having something I know she isn't crazy about. But for the most part, she will eat all of our meals.

So Xander (14m) is FINALLY starting to eat table foods. BUT he's only eating grains. He's eat bread, toast, Chex, Cheerios, crackers, etc. But put anything else in front of him (fruits, veggies, meat), and he'll just throw it on the floor, often without even trying it.

I have been offering him table foods first (crackers with fruits and veggies), and then when he's done throwing all the fruits/veggies on the floor and eating the crackers, I'll give him his normal purees (which have everything from fruits and veggies to meats and grains). But should I stop offering the purees? How did you know to transition fully to table foods? And how do you get your kids to eat something other than carbs?

Any advice would be appreciated!
