There are options to prevent this. I have been using a door monkey lock, which is placed up high. The only downside is the door has to stay slightly ajar, but this has not caused problems for us. It is nice because it is easily moved, and we can use it on other doors when necessary. There are also door knob covers, but I was worried that DS would outsmart it. Some sort of locking device was necessary for us for safety reasons, because DS' bedroom is on a different floor from the master bedroom.

I recently transitioned DS out of the crib (straight to an existing queen size bed) at 27 months, because I am pregnant and will need the crib for the new baby. It has only been two weeks, but so far DS has not gotten out of bed on his own (he will climb out of bed on his own, but only when I go get him). He has, if anything, been sleeping better than ever.

My DD is currently 21.5 months old and is still too short to climb out of the cot but I was wondering if I should transition her to a bed while she can't reach the door knob. I have a few friends who have had their kids transition and the biggest issue they have is that their kids keep opening the door and coming out. I thought if I transition my daughter while she can't reach maybe she won't go through that phase.

Good idea to transition now while she can't reach or is it better to leave her in the cot for as long as possible?
