Following. Embarrassingly, I still rock my 18-month-old to sleep. :bummed:

Have you tried just doing your normal routine and then just laying him down (without worrying if he looks drowsy)? We
rocked to sleep too and when she started fighting it - around 8 months I think - we just laid get done and fell alseep on her own. She was just ready. Granted, sometimes it took her a long time to actually get to sleep, but she was never crying.

I think our lo are the same age had this problem with naps where we could only rock her and hold her for naps but she wasn't sleepinf easily or well at all. Finally one day I decided to put her in her crib for 20 min to see what would happen. She fell asleep and now takes her naps sooo easy in her crib. And I feel a little silly that I spent 10 months holding her for naps. So it might not be as bad as you think if you do get to cio especially of he's showing signs of wanting more independent sleep.

My son was around your son's age when he was finally able to manipulate a gloworm (push the button on the stomach that plays the music and lights up the face).

For some reason, that gave him control/comfort enough to be in his crib alone and fall asleep without being rocked.

Have you looked at the no cry sleep solution? They have some good ideas about gently promoting more independent sleep. Lo wanted to be rocked to sleep until about 19 months when she gave it up, so our situation was kind of different. We ended up switching to nursing them lying down in bed and me rubbing her back and singing until she fell asleep which took a while too, so I am probably not the best person for advice!

T is rocked to sleep for naps and bedtime and put in his crib after he goes to sleep. But now he doesn't want to be rocked to sleep anymore at 10 months. I can still make it work, but only after a long, stressful, and exhausting rocking session. I basically HAVE to make it work because otherwise he will lay in his bed and be awake even longer than if I had rocked him to sleep. And he will have to CIO. I don't want to do CIO.

How do I transition into putting him down drowsy but awake so he can put himself to sleep?
