@paigeface: I'm so sorry the move to the nursery didn't go well! The transition from RnP to crib really stressed us out as well and I know it's so tough when you're in the middle of it. I will say that we tried the transition when he was around 13-14 weeks, and it did NOT work then. He woke up constantly and we gave up after a few days. We tried again when he was around 20 weeks and that's when the process went much smoother. I think that babies really have to be "ready" for the transition, and that time of readiness will differ for each baby. If it continues to be really rough for another night or two, I'd stop the transition for now, leave him in the RnP, and try again in a few weeks.

Hugs!!!

@paigeface: Another thought... As long as he hasn't hit the weight limit and isn't rolling in the rnp, what's the harm in leaving him in it for now? If the transition is going to suck you might as well put it off as long as possible and get some more good sleep. Make the transition when you absolutely MUST. And maybe by then he'll be old enough to do some type of CIO (if you're comfy with that), and if not, he might just be that much closer to ready and it might be easier. "If it ain't broke..."

Sleep is huge for me. Without it I am a miserable person/mother so we waited until we absolutely had to to make the hard transitions. We didn't remove the swaddle until LO proved he could roll it it, same with the Merlin, and by that point he was old enough to do some CIO.

Following. DS is 4.5 months and we have the same issue. He has bad reflux and other GI issues and so the RnP has been a must. His sleep is messed up anyway from his GI issues.

I'd be fine to leave him in the RnP but I know he's going to outgrow it/start rolling eventually! He also has to be swaddled. He will sometimes take a short nap unswaddled in the RnP if he's really tired (like maybe 30 minutes).

We have the crib elevated but he still just doesn't like it. 20 minutes max in the crib - often he's immediately awake. And without the swaddle, LOL NOPE. I bought a Merlin sleepsuit but he just looked at me when I put him in it.

I'm going through this right now. My son isn't swaddled, but he sleeps through the night in his rock n play. I'm trying to transition him to his crib, but he wakes up after only 30 minutes when he's in it and will cry until I put him in the RNP. I bought the Merlin sleep suit off Amazon, and I hoping that will help

@BadgerMom: Totally sucks. That's a great idea! I didn't want to confuse him by putting him in the RNP for naps but I take him to work so it's either that or the PNP - which for right now he hates. We just ordered a great white noise make that cancels out sound as well. I've just been using and app on my phone until it gets here.

Ugh. Hugs. No sleep sucks! Could you try moving to the crib at night and still using the rnp for naps? My LO continued to nap in the mamaroo for quite a while even when he was spending the night in his crib. Are you using loud white noise?

@Kbee: This is exactly what I think I am going to do! I put him down in the crib to sleep for his first nap today (swaddled) and he HATED it. After five minutes of wiggling he woke himself back up and I rocked him back to sleep then put in RNP again.

Update: Last night I moved his RNP into his room next to crib and he woke up from 1:30am-4:30am pretty much every hour. This mama has had 2 hours of sleep. I hope this process gets much easier!! The RNP was a life saver when his reflux was bad but now it seems like its going to take forever to get him out of it.

First we moved the RnP to the nursery next to the crib, still with swaddle. Then we did swaddled in the crib, plus a crib snugglenest (towels under sheet) and a crib wedge for elevation. Then we slowly removed the snugglenest and removed the wedge. Then finally we swaddle-weaned. This whole process took more than a month, but it worked very well!

We're about to start this right now- but LO is in the bassinet attachment of our PNP. We're planning to go from bassinet/swaddle to crib/Zipadee-Zip all at once. We'll do night time first and then naps.

@paigeface: We did the crib transition early, LO was so noisy! We ditched the swaddle when he started to roll in it, right at 5 months. We tried going to just the sleep sack at that point but LO could not get himself to sleep with his arms free so I bought the Merlin out of desperation. It worked like magic.

ETA. With your LOs age I think you might want to try going from rnp/swaddle to crib/Merlin in one swoop. Then you don't have to worry about rolling for a while. If it doesn't work you can go back to the swaddle a little longer.

We just recently transitioned DD from RnP to a PnP. I planned it for time I had off work because I figured she would sleep horribly. Well, it turns out that the Friday I was scheduled to start this, she learned to roll. That night she had no issues in the PnP. For the week prior, I always put her down in the PnP and she'd wake up around midnight. She'd then go into the RnP. I think that helped her.

With my second that didn't seem to work. So we did it cold turkey no seaddle and in crib at 5m.

Hi everyone!

Our little guy is 4 and 1/2 months old and we feel like it's time for him to go in his own room after sleeping the in the Rock n' play in our room since he was born. We originally had him in the rocker because he had bad reflux and he slept like a dream in it. Well, he's getting a little big for it and it's 25 lbs max. Plus, he's STTN so we'd like to have our room back ;)

Has anyone had luck transitioning from the rock n' play or something similar to the crib? What did you do?

Also, we want to start unswaddling too since he's learning to roll over. Should we try unswaddling first or crib first?

Thanks in advanced!
