@LulaBee: I'm sure the transition to daycare will be better for you! It's nice that she's a couple weeks older, hopefully that'll make a difference! If she's not too big for it or rolling then I wouldn't worry about switching her immediately

@peaches1038: oh no, so sorry to hear he is so sick! I hope he starts feeling better soon... that doesn't give me hope about my girl being in daycare.

I may wait a few more weeks to even attempt it, as she just started daycare this week and I don't want to change too much on her.

@LulaBee: we were very successul with the transition at 8 weeks. We also transitioned to a regular halo sleepsack at that time. He slept beautifully for 4 weeks until I returned to work and he got sick at daycare. He is 16 weeks now and we have him back in the RNP because he is so congested and coughing (has had rsv and bronchiolitis for 4 weeks). He now wakes up 1-4 times per night. I'm not sure whether to blame it on being so sick or the 4 month sleep regression. I hope it goes well for you!!

Bumping this thread. LO is 15 weeks and I figure I should start transitioning out of RNP to her crib.. how did this go for you all? Mine doesn't have auto rock feature, so it only rocks when she moves. But she's sleeping up to 10 hours solid in this thing and I don't want that to go away!

We pretty much did it cold turkey. I remember it because it was New Year's Eve and our son was about 8 weeks old. We figured it was worth a try and he did totally fine. I wanted to err on the side of doing it early as he'd spend the whole night on the "vibrating" function, and I was worried I'd spoiled him! I say pick a weekend night (especially if you and your husband work/one of you isn't still on leave) and go for it.

ETA: our RNP had been in the nursery next to the crib for a while before the transition, but if he'd been in with us still I likely would have had him in the RNP in the nursery for a few nights before the crib.

Following bc I'm in this exact same situation. My LO is 8 weeks and sleeps consistently from 10-6am in his RNP next to our bed. We also have the auto rock. We just stopped using the rocking feature 2 days ago and it hasn't affected his sleep. My plan is this:
1. Stop autorocking
2. Move RNP to nursery
3. Transition to crib
If the transition is rough, I might try Mrs. Blues crib nest trick and slowly reduce the angle of the mattress. http://www.hellobee.com/2013/09/03/surviving-reflux-colds-angle-sleeping-and-crib-nests/

@Littlebit7: He's never like being swaddled, but that's a good idea to try that if he doesn't get on board with the crib. I gave up on swaddling almost immediately (mostly because he's such a hot baby he would just sweat in it) but maybe I'll try it again if the transition isn't going smoothly.

@Alivoo01: Yes I think I'll be brave this week and try just the 20 minute setting a see if he stays sleeping after that.

@DenverMom: That sounds like a good plan too. I'm secretly hoping that once he starts rolling and moving around more that he will just start to really like the crib.

My LO would only sleep in a swing, so I had her in there for about the first 3 months. We handled the transition to the crib gradually. I would start her in the crib and then when she woke up a few hours later and was fussy I'd put her back in the swing for the rest of the night. After a while she just didn't need the swing anymore and was able to go back to sleep without the constant motion. The transition took us about a month and a half or so. Also, she started rolling around 4-5 months and so she eventually liked the crib to have room to roll and explore.

The "when" is sort of whenever you want to bite the bullet. It probably will be tough whenever you try it (hey, you never know maybe he won't have a problem!)

first off, I'd think about whether he goes down easier for night sleep or naps. If its naps sleep, reverse the order of the below steps. I chose to start with night sleep because my lo went down easiest for that to begin with.
1. stop auto rock. maybe try stopping it for night sleep first for a few days. then naps.
2. crib for night sleep. this will be tough. soothe as necessary. odds are good you'll get a nice first long stretch, he wakes and he might not be able to resettle. worst case scenario: back into the RnP! Keep at it, eventually he will sleep through
3. crib for naps. This should be better by the time you implement it, because he'll be all "hey I know what this cage is for". i'd try to leave him in for a good 45 min period (or whatever his nap periods typically are, even if you are in to soothe multiple times. Some people refer to it as the "crib hour".

Do you swaddle? If not, then I wouldn't start unless he just DOESN"T get on board with the crib for a week; he might just need that cosy feeling that the RNP provides. I think getting rid of the swaddle down the line won't be as difficult as the crib transition.

Stopping the rocking feature is a great step 1 since cribs don't rock!

I'm curious about the responses! DD sleeps really well in the RNP. I want to transition her at the end of this month after we get back from visiting my family. I'm nervous about screwing up her sleep!

LO has been sleeping in a Rock 'N Play for 2 months now (he's 3 months currently). For the first month I could not get him to sleep in a crib so we tried the Rock 'N Play with the auto rock feature and it's been a lifesaver. LO consistently sleeps in a 8 hour stretch each night.

He's growing so quickly I think I'll have to start pretty soon. I'm nervous to transition him, as he's been sleeping so good in his Rock 'N Play so I have a feeling it's going to be rough.

Any advice when I should start and how I should go about transitioning him? I'm wondering if maybe I should start with turning the auto rock feature off? It currently rocks for 6 hours straight each night.
