I kind of dealt with the same thing. Typically at 10-12 months they move up to the older infant room which is just one nap. Because she was mobile early she moved up at ten months and wasn't ready for one nap.

Eventually they got her closer to pushing her morning nap back as late as possible (they do an activity at 10 and lunch at 11 so they keep them busy so they don't fall asleep). Some times she needed an afternoon nap as well but by about 13 months she was down to just the one nap.

I would talk to them and see what happens if he isn't on that schedule yet or physically isn't ready for one nap per day. I would t worry about training him before hand. Hopefully they can help with that and it buys you a bit more time so he's older before the second nap is dropped.

I would wait until its time... Let your LO get his naps in now. At that age my LO definitely needed 2 naps.. Surprised by all these day cares that start 1 nap so early, but i guess it's not as uncommon as I thought!

I voted to wait until closer 11.5 months. Children are a lot more resilient than you think and they adapt to change well, as long as you give them time. Well, based on my own personal experience anyway. I think 2 weeks is plenty of time to transition him over to 1 nap.

My daughter started daycare at 16 months, and she was still on two naps a day. She was going into the infant room, so maybe that's the difference, but they said they would work around her schedule and if she wanted two naps a day, she could have two.... so I didn't bother trying to transition her....

But that doesn't help you, sorry.

I have a dilemma.

We have a nanny now for LO (almost 10 months now), but starting in January he will be enrolled at the 12-18 months old toddler room for a daycare that I like. LO will be 11.5 months old. This has been planned all along as I didn't know much about anything and didn't quite think about the details back then ....

However, in the 12-18 months room, they have a schedule which all kids take only 1 nap, and nap time starts at 12:30 and lasts for 2-3 hours. LO is currently pretty consistently doing 2 naps, going down at 9:30am and roughly around 2pm, for 2.5-3.5 hours total a day. And he sleeps through the night from 730p to 6-ish am.

People at daycare said it would be smart to get him to start with the schedule about a month ahead so he won't be in such a shock.... but I don't think he's ready for 1 nap a day yet!

What do you think I should do?
