Still struggling with my twins! they are nearly 20 months. On day care days (3 days/week) they only get one nap, but days they're home they always seem to need a short nap in the morning--I have to cap it at 25 minutes or else they do not sleep the rest.of.the.day! I am so tired of this "transition." I mean seriously, some days they will do 25 minutes in the morning and that's it! Or they'll fall asleep in their high chairs at 11:30 eating lunch and wake up at 12:30 and that's it! I don't have any tips. We've literally been in transition for close to 5-6 months now.

Us! We finally fully transitioned to 1 nap about 3 weeks ago...when our twins were 20 months! We were in the 1/2 nap purgatory for 3-4 months, easy. It's hard!
The tough part for us was that my guys liked their MORNING nap and didn't want to sleep in the afternoon. Sooooo...I just had to keep stretching the morning nap and then putting them down for a "rest" between 3-4. Without the rest, bedtime was at 6, which led to an ugly, ugly early wakeup/early nap schedule.
Basically I finally had enough and decided to be done with 2-nap days. DD started catnapping again, which sucks, but as of yesterday, she's starting to lengthen.

@Rubies: how early did she wake up? It's translated to a 4:30 AM wakeup for us :/

@looch: @mrsjyw: @Beehive: @lamariniere: thanks ladies! I appreciate knowing we're not alone. I was so excited thinking we were finally ready to go to one but we don't quite seem to be there.

I had to transition my son to 1 nap at 23 months, right before he started daycare. He probably would have been happy to continue with 2 naps for a few more months.

We still do 2 naps about half of the time and LO is almost 22 months. He doesn't really need the second nap anymore, but he'll often take it if we put him in the crib. He takes a long morning nap though, usually 9:30 or 10-12. He's starting afternoon preschool in September though, so no more afternoon nap then!

DS transitioned to 1 nap just after 18 months. We'd try to move it previously and it didn't really work. Except for random fluke days here and there. We just waited it out 'til he was ready. There were a few days where he went to bed early (630)...but then he went back to his normal 7/730 bedtime with one nap around noon.

Yep, my son was on two naps until he was about 20 months. He'll be 4 in December and is just now in the process of dropping his afternoon nap.

We were later, and it also took a long time. I would say the in between stage started around 17 or 18 mos and it was probably 21 mos old before LO was consistently napping just once a day.

@Mrs. Deer: We had to force 1 nap on her at 12 months because of daycare, but one thing i had to do during the transition was move her bedtime earlier. Have you tried that? I also went through the 5am wakeup time as well (probably for a couple of weeks) and it was brutal. I feel your pain!

@Freckles: all her naps are 30 minutes so they're already super short! We've been trying to transition for almost two months now. Every time I think we've done it she's started waking earlier and earlier in the morning from being overtired (now at 4 AM regularly). So rough!

@hilsy85: yeah, she was barely making it to 10:30 and we we're doing bedtime at 5 (dead asleep at 5:30). It was crazy! Back to tie naps but it makes our day too long and doesn't quite work either :/

My coworker's grandson didn't transition until about 19-20 months either.

Have you tried making the transition yet - shortening the first nap so that the second nap would be longer? It'll take some time (and bumps) to fully transition to 1.

We didn't transition on the later side (LO was around 15 months) but it did take forever! He couldn't stay up past 10/10:30 for a looong time. SO we just did a really early bedtime (like 6, 630) for a while.

LO is 19.5 months and we've been stuck in that weird place for weeks now where 2 naps is too much and 1 isn't enough (she's a chronic catnapper so that doesn't help).

Anybody else's LO transition to 1 nap on the later side? Or found it took forever to make the transition? Just curious! :)
