thanks for the tips! i wish i can keep avery locked up in a crib forever, but i know i have to make the move eventually. I will definitely try keeping the crib and twin and letting her choose. this works out for me because the baby will be in our room for the first few months. i'm just worried about when we eventually put them in the same room! will have to try and postpone that as long as possible.

At 25m we converted our crib to a toddler bed (for us it was just taking off the front side of the crib). We have the twin bed all ready to put together (once the hardware arrives) and plan to transition DD to it at 26m. Our goal is to break the crib down and store it for a couple months before the baby arrives (due mid-Sept) so that DD doesn't feel that the baby "stole" her bed since they will be sharing a room.

We are planning to do this, too. But, we will have the newborn in a P&P in our room for the first six months or so, at which point the older bro will be 28 months. Depending on whether we decide to have them share a room, by that point we may have a big boy room ready and decorated with something he likes. I hope that will cushion the blow.

Bottom line, I DON'T think it's too early at all for you. Everyone is different and some kids go to toddler beds by 18 months! And a lot of people say toddler beds are a waste of time and money, so I say just go for it.

We had our baby when Toddler Girl was 23 months. We transitioned her to a twin (which was already in the room) at about 26 months. She did pretty good. Now the baby is 4 months old and we're planning on putting her in the crib next month.

I didn't feel that she was ready to move before the baby was born, but I decided not to stress about it right away, because I knew that the baby would be sleeping in our room in the moses basket at first. And three or four months makes a big difference to a little person.

if i could do it again, i would do what blushink did. we ended up switching charlie to a regular bed in one day since he was climbing out and i was too worried about him falling and getting a serious injury.

Every child is different, I agree but in our situtation I had a second baby coming and didn't want my son to be in a crib still (seeing we had to move him room anyway)

He was 19 months when we transitioned him in the second room. What we did though was have both the bed and the crib in the room, allowing him to decide which he wanted to use. He went for the crib 3 nights, the 4th asked for the bed and mid way through the night wanted to go in the crib, and the 5th day he never went back.

He's 23 months now, and never once wanted to go in his sisters crib. He LOVES his big boy bed.

I agree with @Mrs. Wagon. Every child is different and it either goes great or horribly bad, but it's not too early. A lot of people have to do it around the same age since they need the crib for the next child.

I've talked to many parents who went straight from crib to twin bed, and usually because they needed the crib for the second baby. I've heard everything from it was GREAT (child's sleep was even better in the bed than the crib) to it was awful (at 6 he still goes to his parents' bed every night at 1am).

what age did you transition your toddler from a crib to a twin bed?

I am giving birth to my second child in november, and my first will be about 23 months. I considered buying a twin bed instead of another crib, but friends are telling me it's way too early.....
