We mixed the milk the first few times we gave it to her at 12 mo and then went straight to wcm. We also quit the bottle at the same time and did straw cups.

He wouldn't take a bottle so we went straight to a sippy cup. One day I just decided we were done nursing and starting using WCM. warmed it, and he had no issues transitioning.

@catomd00: I guess I never really worried about it, she eats an ok balance (I mean she's a toddler) of all other good groups and I give her vitamins. Her ped didn't seem concerned so I just didn't put much thought into it?

@catomd00: Our son eats a lot of unsweetened whole milk Greek yogurt. Sometimes we mix in a little fruit, but he likes to eat it plain too. I think that is pretty similar to milk from a nutritional perspective.

We introduced WCM about a week before he turned 10 months per our ped's recommendation. Previously he had only had breast milk (either via nursing or via bottle) and water (originally via bottle but now sippy cup since he figured out how to use it). I might have waited longer or done a more gradual transition, but I had run down my freezer stash and could no longer pump enough to keep up with his demand. And he had never had formula so I was trying to avoid introducing it for such a short period of time.

Anyway, at 10 months I stopped pumping at work but still nurse on demand when we are together. He drinks WCM while I am away. I was planning on using a sippy cup, but my husband gave it to him first, in a bottle, and he didn't really like it. But then when we gave it to him in a sippy cup it was fine. So I guess he associated the bottle with breast milk. At first he drank maybe about 1-2 oz at a time, but now he will drink 4-5 oz a few times per day, which is about how much breast milk he'd been drinking.

We started the transition while I was home for two weeks over the holidays, so it was low key since I didn't have to worry about pumping. He only had WCM a few times during that period, and then I went back to work the day before he turned 10 months old.

@Bao: what does she drink or eat to get enough calcium fat and protein? I'm not sold on WCM but it does seem easiest to ensure they're getting proper nutrition.

At 10 months we started straw cups of breastmilk at daycare (combined with bottles to make sure she still drank all her milk). She's almost 11 months and we are still doing that. In another 3 weeks I plan to start mixing BM and WCM (per peds suggestion) and removing all bottles at 12 months. We will see how it goes.
ETA - she does cold smoothies in the straw cup so I don't see cold milk being an issue. If it is, we will start warm and gradually cool it.

We are still using the bottle at nearly 13m, but we just mixed WCM into formula one ounce extra per day til there was no formula left - he never even skipped a beat. He was a little constipated for about a week after, but nothing that extra pears couldn't fix.

Cold turkey into her sippy (though she was already drinking formula out of her sippy by that point). It took her a couple of days to get used to it (didn't drink much during that time) but then it was fine.

i think i tried mixing a little (like 1 or 2 days of it), but got lazy and just went cold turkey. luckily LO loves WCM, and didn't mind it cold either from the start.

We started around 11 months replacing LO's afternoon bottle with WCM in a sippy cup. After a couple of weeks, we replaced the mid morning bottle. I nursed morning and night for a while while also giving WCM at breakfast and dinner.

ETA - we never mixed BM and WCM - LO was fine with WCM from the start.

I cut out the bottles cold turkey at 12 months. I gradually mixed more whole milk with the formula in a straw sippy. After a few days, it was 100% milk. He did drastically reduce his milk intake for about a week. My mom was ready to whip out the bottles again. But I stuck with it and after about 2 weeks, he was back to drinking the normal amount of milk - about 3 sippy cups a day.

Any tricks or tips? How did you make the transition? What type of cup did you use? LO drinks formula from a bottle and water from a straw cup.
