i wish we did it sooner when charlie was younger. he was 2 1/4? when we did it? my friend still has her 3+ son in his crib!

i feel like we should have done it when his sleep was great and not waited until something happened (he wouldn't stop climbing out) to do the transition.

We transitioned DD to a toddler bed at 18 months. We redid the guest room as her "big girl" room for Christmas, so we could move her out of the nursery in preparation for #2 (born in March). I think it was a good time to do it, and she had an easy transition.

We started by making a really big deal of her new room/bed. We didn't let her see any of it until Christmas morning, and then we let her jump on the bed/play in there all morning. when it came time for her nap, wI stayed with her until she fell asleep. I think the first nap she woke up early, so we put her to bed in her crib that night. The next day she took two good naps in her new room, and had a great night in her new bed!

LO is 21-months now and we're thinking about transitioning her to a twin-sized mattress on the floor. I heard a lot of people made the transition smoothly, but I also heard to keep them in their crib for as long as possible! She's a cautious baby and has never even tried to leap out of her crib - she's pretty content in there, but if the transition is going to be smooth I'd rather do it sooner than later since Baby #2 is coming in February.

What was your experience like with the crib to toddler-bed or twin-sized bed transition?
