@travelingbrit: It will get better though it may take some time. I've had friends who were up and out and about almost as soon as the C-section was done, but I had a really hard recovery and almost 8 months later still have pain.

I didn't sleep in my bed for about a month and a half--I couldn't get in and out of bed. Moving to the living room really helped me feel better because I could roll off the couch easier and get LO when she cried or needed to be fed. I did ask for something stronger than Motrin and that definitely helped.

I remember the passing gas thing! And it hurt so much to walk--I had to walk around the hospital floor bent over like a little old lady while all the women with vaginal births were galloping (that's what it seemed like to me). Ugh. It hurt so much but lots of water and juice helped me. My husband had to help a lot--he helped me get up to go to the bathroom and would bring the baby to me so that I could feed her. Once you get home don't push anything and it's okay if you stay in your pajamas all day! What helped me feel better was being able to shower every day (the little things) and having someone else worry about the cleaning.

Happy birthday! & Hugs!

@travelingbrit: Prayers that the pain--both physical and emotional--will subside soon! I know that they will.

If there are particular juices you like, get someone to go get them for you. Hospital-issue OJ is not that tasty, you know? ;) Also, the nurses should be able to give you options for pain treatment--I think some of them are designed to help a bit with the mental strain as well.

Finally, if you have an ICAN (Int'l Cesarean Awareness Network) chapter nearby, those women can be a great resource for coping after a traumatic birth. (At risk of sounding totally creepy, I saw on your profile that you're in South Florida. The ICAN South Florida women are AWESOME. So if you're still in Miami/Fort Lauderdale, don't hesitate to contact them! They've got a website and an email listserv.)

Best wishes (from slightly North), and happy birthday!

It will get better! I had a c section with my son and was walking up and down stairs two days post. You will be ok. Make sure to take your meds when you need them and focus on the baby instead of the pain.

Hang in there! I haven't had a C, but I understand the crazy emotions, overwhelming feelings, and desperation. It will get better - you just have to get through this part - one little moment at a time. You'll start feeling like a million bucks in no time.

My recovery was pretty bad but most of my friends bounced back quickly! They were driving and taking walks within a week.

I wasn't able to sleep in my bed for 3 weeks and I walked at a snail's pace for a couple of weeks. I never got pain relief from my meds so I just stopped taking them because I was sick of going back to my dr to try new drug combos that were doing nothing. Things got better at the one month mark and I felt great 6 weeks pp.

Thinking of you! Congrats and happy birthday!!!

@travelingbrit: awww it does get better I promise! What pain meds are you on? Hit them up for the strongest they can give you, to get through the rough part. The first time I stood up after the op was horrific, I'd never felt pain like that, I started spinning, vision went etc and the nurses had to give me a shot of morphine before I could even sit on the bed again. But after that low. It got slowly better and within a week I really wasn't that bad. I'm 4 weeks out now and feel great! You will feel better, you will be able to eat and you will walk holding your baby, promise! Congrats on your baby and Happy Birthday!

Oooh, I had some issues post c-section with pain control. I could only take one of the two medicines they had for me, and they fell behind on the one I could take take and my doses were coming an hour plus late. It took me crying at a pain level of a 9/10 for them to realize how much they f'd me up. It was honestly the most painful and uncomfortable 48 hours of my life. Every day it gets better - remember that. And by the 4th day I was walking around the hospital floor, slowly and a bit uncomfortable, but I was moving. By 7 days I was driving and by 10 days I felt fantastic. It WILL get better, I promise. Hang in there!!!

P.S. Happy Birthday! And try some jello. That is considered a liquid and I swear I ate like 4 containers a day! lol

It does get better...I promise! I wasn't allowed to have anything other than a liquid diet for the first 36 hours or so. I think my recovery was pretty standard, but I remember thinking that I would never be able to get in and out of bed without pain and would never be steady on my feet. Each day got better and better. Within a week or two I had minimal pain and felt comfortable holding my baby while walking around. Until then let people bring the baby to you and enjoy lots of cuddle time :)
