My BIL researched all of the hospitals in the area, just in case (all of my nephews were early, plus we had one very elderly grandmother and a nephew with bad asthma). </p> <p>When I was 38 weeks I went to my BIL's house for a BBQ 2 hours away, and after that the furthest I went was 40 minutes, for my niece's birthday party a few days before I went into labor. </p> <p>I think you'll be fine, but like pps said, maybe bring a small bag and double-check about hospitals around, just in case. </p> https://boards.hellobee.com/topic/travel-at-36-weeks-or-more#post-873331 Thu, 20 Jun 2013 21:51:10 +0000 Running Elley 873331@https://boards.hellobee.com/ <p>The latest that I traveled was 33 weeks and I went 4 hours away. At my 36 week appt I was already dilated to a 2 and 60% effaced so I definitely wouldn't have traveled after that. I was 3cm dilated at my 39 week appt but hadn't felt any contractions and wasn't anticipating a speedy labor since it was my first. It's away from home, but there's a hospital there, so I kind of feel like it's not a big issue? My doctor was fine with it and reinforced that it was very unlikely that I wouldn't have time to get home since it was my first baby. In my mind, I was also sure baby wouldn't be coming for awhile.</p> <p>I ended up going into labor the next day after all but the travel wasn't a problem at all. I will be driving, too (I've asked my friend to come with me but we will be going in my car) so I hope I don't go into labour while I'm there!! Then. I was planning on going about 1.5 hours *without traffic* away July 4th weekend, when I will be 36 and a half weeks. We plan to travel during off hours, but the biggest risk is that I'd go into labor and have a 2 hour or more drive back, or have the baby at a hospital out there. We plan to play it by ear and see how things are at my 36 week appt, but we'll probably still go (the midwife did not seem appalled by this. She just said she couldn't recommend it). </p>
