@shopaholic: just be careful with what the airline says. Since we took Austrian Airlines from Austria, they knew the "rules" better than the local employees we dealt with when we returned from Bangkok. Even though I tried pleading with the lady and explained that we didn't pay anything on the way there, she was really not interested in helping us. But I am grateful that she did finally let us carry on.

@scg00387: I have thought about packing the bassinet from our UBV and using that. Will have to test if she'll still sleep in it now!

@babyjmama: Thanks! I think that was one of the posts that helped me register for the Baby Bjorn!

@Mrs. Bee: @erwoo: Wow! I hadn't heard of the GoCrib. Makes me wonder if I should have registered for that instead, but I saw so many Baby Bjorn fans on HB. They're all around the same price so I don't think I'll buy another "travel crib". An cheap PnP might be a good idea! Will have to look into how cheap I can find! ;)

@lamariniere: Thanks for those tips! Will call the airline this week!

We travel quite a lot and have used both the Bjorn and hotel cribs. Honestly, we've never had hygiene problems with hotel cribs, although I always take LO's sleep sack or blankies or AA swaddles to add to the crib for something familiar.

One thing to look out for is if the airline is going to charge you for the crib. We just came back from traveling in Asia and Austrian Airlines let us check the crib for free on the way there. However, on the way back the were going to make us pay $150 to check it! They ended up letting us carry it on for free instead of check it, but I would have been really upset to have to pay that much to check the crib.

If you can confirm that all of your hotels/ship has cribs, I would leave the Bjorn behind. They honestly aren't that bad.

@Mrs. Bee our Bjorn fit in the overhead compartment. I guess it just depends on the size of the plane.

We have a Guava Go Crib and love it. It's the size of a large backpack and you can either put it inside a really large suitcase or take it with you on board. We had a forced overnight stay in Beijing b/c the airline made us miss our connection and the crib that they had for us, well, it was broken. I requested it and they dug it out of storage and when we got to the hotel room there were 8 ppl there trying to figure out how to assemble it when one person showed me that it was broken. I think they were trying to figure out how to make it work. Um, scary! Luckily my cousin lives there and they picked us up to stay at their much more comfortable house! That was our only bad experience with a hotel crib though. Most hotels have PNPs as cribs but that's in the U.S.

Also, Guava makes another portable PNP called the Lotus Travel Crib that looks like you can also take on board and not as expensive as the Go Crib and just 2 lbs heavier. I think if we didn't already have the Go Crib I would have gotten this one. The set up looks super easy! Not that the Go Crib isn't! It is also super easy.

Or another option is you can get a really cheap PNP just for the trip and check it if you don't want your Bjorn one to break.

i always take our own. you can't take the babybjorn on the plane because it's too long -- you have to check it in. if you're worried about losing it, you could buy something like the gocrib which does fit in your carry-on.

I would take my own. Hotel ones kind of creep me out. Plus then it is something familiar to sleep in.

Personally id be skeeved out by a hotel crib and take it so LO has a consistent spot and sheets that smell like home! Could you put it in an extra bag to protect it?

ETA- she is still itty bitty I know, have you thought about like a travel bassinet?? We used the summers infant by your side travel bassinet until LO was too big because we were moving. It folded up very small.

Packing for our trip and wondering whether or not to bring the Baby Bjorn crib. European hotel rooms are notorious for being small and I assume our cruise ship even smaller. They both said they would reserve a crib for us but I hear they can be awful?

We will have one layover each flight. I'm scared of the crib being lost, stolen, or damaged? Anyone taken it as a carrying? Advice? Suggestions? WWYD?
