@castilrm: I think the headsets are Panasonic, but we bought them years ago and I’m sure there are newer models. The splitter is just a basic one from amazon. These days they are 5 and 8, so they just plug their headsets into their own seatback screen (on the trip I mentioned, my younger LO flew as a lap baby).

We have done quite a few long flights around that age. DS has always been a very active kid so he will only sleep when the plane is making its final descent! My whole carryon is usually an arsenal of 1-5 minute activities. Usually we spend the first part playing with the new surroundings—opening/closing tray tables and the contents of the seat pocket. Then I bust out something new from said arsenal which includes:
- finger puppets
- Melissa and Doug invisible marker book
- Melissa and Doug water pen book
- the latest little books he’s obsessed with
- snacks like pirate booty, puffs, ritz bits
- little plastic dinosaur with movable mouth and a couple similar grocery store toys
- duplo legos
- sticker/coloring book
- wrapping some of the above items in tissue paper
- cycle through a few of these a few times. Snacking, stickers, markers, books, etc.
- “walk” around the plane
- try to hold out on videos/screen time until we’ve exhausted ourselves and all other options. He liked a lot at that age to look at family photos and home videos!

@castilrm: you didn’t ask me obviously :silly: but we have these headphones and have been very happy with them. They just plug into each other so both can hear the same thing.

Is it a long enough flight have in flight entertainment? We did a 12 hour flight when my youngest was about 18 months, and my older LO was 4. We had a splitter for their headphones and they shared the seat back screen. We also had sticker books and Water Wow.

Hi all! We’re taking a long flight with our 18 month old and 3 year old next week. My 3 year old (knock on wood) is usually pretty easily entertained by coloring, arts and crafts projects and, of course, some Daniel Tiger. But my 18 month old has only ever dealt with a one hour flight previously, and while we’ve had some long drives, and she did great, we were able to stop the car whenever needed to stretch legs, eat, etc. Sadly not an option when flying! Any suggestions on age appropriate distractions for flights with an 18 month old? Thanks!
