We're heading to the US for Christmas to visit my family and I am just now in the process of sorting out insurance for whilst we're there. As our two LOs and I are all American citizens, we don't qualify for travel insurance and instead have to take out a short term insurance policy for each time we visit (we won't talk about what a pain in the ass that is, but given US healthcare costs, it's a non-negotiable). There is one company I've used in the past and I just assumed we'd use them again this time, but it somehow slipped my mind that being pregnant now, I am considered to have a 'pre-existing condition', which makes things so much more difficult! I can get coverage but it won't cover any expenses that may arise from the pregnancy, even if loosely related (eg if I get a UTI, that could be considered a side effect of pregnancy and it wouldn't be covered, although I'm guessing I could fight that).

Anyway, I'm trying to decide what to do - should I just take out a normal short term insurance policy with the pre-existing condition clause and hope nothing goes wrong during our 3.5 week visit? Anyone have any other solutions? I'll be approximately 14-17 weeks pregnant during our visit so a fairly low risk time I would think...

I'm at a loss as to what else I can do - it's so hard to be an expat returning to your home country for a visit as you can't just take our normal travel insurance! Argh...
