Oh, and I'm also bringing my ring sling, which might help with nursing in the airport, if need be.

Good call on the manual pump! I will be sure to pack mine. Also going to go buy a small cooler in case I do end up pumping and then getting delayed.

Already have my nursing cover packed :)

Agree with the rec to have a hand-pump and nursing cover or light blanket on hand in case of delays. Also sanitizing wipes for pump parts or the nipple in case you'd have to reuse it?

@heartonastring: At least with an EBF baby you'll have plenty of food! Still, I know it's stressful, so I'll keep my fingers crossed you don't get stuck or delayed!

I think it's doable, but I would have a hand pump ready so I could relieve some of the pressure in that 8 hours. Especially because you never know if you might get delayed or how long it will take to get the rental, etc.

Personally, I'd pump on the plane or in the airport. I think my body knows it needs to make more milk during the day vs overnight so it's not 100% equivalent in terms of hours without emptying the breast. At a minimum just be prepared with pump and parts and batteries in case you feel the need on the plane.

@birdofafeather: Yeah, good point,. I will see if I can find any nursing pads in my cupboard!

@rattles: I plan to pump in the car on the way to the airport, and then as soon as we get our rental car. Hopefully that will do the trick!

And now, just to throw a super fun wrench in things, they're calling for a snow/ice storm tomorrow. Please god, don't let me get stuck at the airport with a baby :crying:

totally possible, although i would have gotten super leaky during the day going that long! but i would bring a bottle and still try to nurse her honestly. she might surprise you and you're not out of luck either way!

I think it's possible for sure. I couldn't nurse in public either at that stage. I'd pump after checking in to cut down on the time in between as much as possible. Good luck!

We're flying to Florida on Saturday and I'm trying to figure out the nursing logistics. I'm thinking of skipping a nursing session (will give dd a bottle of pumped milk instead) and then pumping as soon as we land and get our rental car. That will probably put me at about eight hours between nursing sessions. Do you think that's doable?

At the moment dd nurses about every four hours and usually just on one side. I get engorged overnight when I go about ten hours between my nighttime pump and her morning feed, but it's not painful (I don't get nearly as engorged as I used to).

She's a SUPER distracted nurser, to the point that I can only nurse her in silence at home, and almost always side-lying. I just can't see her being cool with nursing in the airport or on the plane.

Oh, and she's been EBF (plus solids now) since birth and is 9 months old now, so I'm not worried that this will affect supply, as it's obviously well-established at this point.

Do you think this is doable?
