We always brought our PNP to places that didn't have it. But it was all travel by car.

@CakeLady: Thats how my MIL is too :) That's actually what made me think of it. We went to visit them once at their vacation home in Florida and she recruited all the gear (stroller, booster, pnp etc) so we didn't have to bring any of it! They have all the same stuff at their house in NC too :) It makes it so much easier on us! And cost them very little.

We found great deals on used PNP's. I would buy one at your destination, or have your relatives be on the lookout. You can get a basic older model for $10-20 if you find a good deal.

ETA: or you can maybe see if they could borrow one from someone they know for a few days.

@CakeLady: I just know how much crap I took to Disney and how overwhelming the airport felt -- but if you do curbside, you should be okay! (Especially if checked bags are free)

I've travelled with a PNP packed inside my biggest suitcase, worked great, but it meant I had to be very strategic with my packing.

@psw27: I am pretty sure we can check bags for free (I used an airline credit card). Also, we only visit these relatives every few years. If we wen't more often I would definitely do that. We are having a small foldable booster seat sent down, since they literally have NO baby stuff.

@CakeLady: Do you travel a fair amount and will you be having any subsequent kids? We take 3-4 bigger trips a year to see family and generally fly, plus the odd weekend away..so we decided to invest in one of the more expensive travel cribs that are smaller and lighter.

We're going to have two kids, plus the Lotus has a bassinet option that we already agreed to use for LO #2 for the first 6 months when they arrive (we didn't have a bassinet the first time, just put LOs crib in our room).

So we feel like we are getting our money's worth. Is that an option?

@CakeLady: ditto @psw27: p-n-p do not fly free like car seats - so lets say $25 each way - that's $50 - I think I would buy one at your destination and leave it there

@CakeLady: Is it worth just buying a PNP for your relatives house? I know it seems like a lot of $ to spend for something that will be used only there, but by the time you pay to check it both ways it might almost be a break even?

@HabesBabe: right?
I think I'll have DH drop me at the terminal and I'll do curbside check in of the PnP and suitcases while he parks the car. Then we will just have to deal with the carseat and stroller in the airport :bummed:

@CakeLady: oh god, flying with it will suck. Can you order one on Amazon and have it shipped to your friends' house instead? I'd rather spend $40 on that than dragging a PnP through the airport and back.

We ended up getting a Pack n' Play and actually used it quite a bit, up until LO was a little over 2. After that it was just too small and we tend to do a floor air mattress now. It's kind of an annoying purchase, but worth it if you're going to have more than one kid, especially.

I would bring the PnP-- we bring our PnP everywhere when we travel, and C is 2 1/2! It's small enough so that it doesn't take up much room at all when driving.

Are you driving or flying?

@CakeLady: when my LO was really little (3 months), I flew to my family and we just made up a small floor bed. My mom has a small floor mat that she keeps just for grandchildren to sleep on.

But now that my LO is older and walks around, we brought our Lotus travel crib. It's really lightweight and small--once we flew with it as a carry on and this last time we put it in our big checked bag, along with DH and LOs clothes.

We are going out of town to visit relatives, and they don't have a crib or a PnP. On our last trip we used a PnP (that they had there already) and DS napped in it but we ended up cosleeping. He sleeps on his own at home and I don't want to create bad habits but I also don't want to schlep all.the.things.

Should I bring our PnP or should we just plan to co-sleep? If we go the co-sleeping route, what about naps? Feel free to suggest a better/different solution if you have one!

FWIW We are also bringing a car seat and stroller. DS sleeps on his back and has yet to roll over in his crib. He is 7 mos.
