@shopaholic: Oh because we checked it! But one time it didn't come back on the belt... we had to run around looking for it and it was with the oversize stuff.

@shopaholic: I just saw this... awesome that they came back as expected.

For my domestic trip last week, my stroller came back at the gate and my car seat came back on the baggage belt for both legs of the trip! Woohoo!

*** UPDATE ***

Our trip with the UBV Stroller & Stroller Bag was a success! I didn't have a single problem with it this time. Maybe because it was a domestic flight? I felt very comfortable with the stroller in the UB bag, it seemed well-protected. I did end up buying a Brica Car Seat Bag (after our Jeep one broke). I didn't end up using it for the car seat because we were over the weight limit on our luggage. It was really handy to have as an extra luggage bag. If we had been using the stroller seat, I would have easily been able to put our extra weight items AND the car seat in the bag and check it.

@shopaholic: I hear ya, they are always super fast with the tagging, then I have to take it off and put it on the bag. Hopefully the second time was just a fluke. It's too bad that you guys had that kind of stress!

As for strollers, we got the Kolcraft Contours for travel and tight spaces- we love it and it's relatively cheap, but sturdier than the typical umbrella stroller.

@lemondrop: I think that was part of the problem. We didn't notice that the ticket agent had put the Gate Check tag on the car seat and it was INSIDE the bag. Definitely a problem when we were trying to tell them what was lost. Lesson learned on the first leg. But it happened on the second leg too and we had already moved the tag to the bag... A bright red bag or bright duct tape seems like a great way to make it stand out!

No problems for us on quite a few flights. We got one of the giant bright red bags with "GATE CHECK" written on the side from Buy Buy Baby. I'm glad we used it because it always seems to rain whenever we fly and our stuff would have gotten soaked without it.

Did you get tags for each at the gate before getting on the plane? I think a big duct tape label on each is a good idea. Plus you can buy brightly colored duct tape to use :)

If I was checking my ubv I'd definitely do the bag. You don't want to end up having to buy another one!

The first time we fly I'm thinking we will just do the carseat and snap an go, then move up to an umbrella and avoid ever checking our ubv.

@HabesBabe: the bag for the carseat busted on the one trip. I guess I ought to go buy another one! Yeah. I think I will just duct tape both bags with signs that say stroller and car seat. DH is just annoyed by the bags.

@shopaholic: but the car seat needs to be safe/under warranty, too!

We gate checked both of ours (B-Agile in the bag @sunny posted) and then our carseat was in a backpack-style bag (so DH wore it through the entire airport, keeping his hands free).

Our stuff never got lost :( That's so weird that it happened to you twice! I'd still use a bag, for sure.

I'm contemplating purchasing a stroller bag for the UB Gluxe we're about to buy. But, now I'm hesistant! The only times we'd take it on a plane, we'd 100% be gate checking!

We gatechecked our cheap graco lite rider and had NO issues of damage/etc. Maybe it's better off w/o a bag for gate chceks?

I've had mixed results too! We put our Britax B-Agile stroller in its bag (looks like this due to the way it folds: http://www.britaxusa.com/accessories/b-agile-travel-bag) and our stroller which was gate checked each time did not come back to us the same way twice. Once it was put in cargo and put with regular luggage, once it came back at the gate and once it came back in the oversize luggage. It definitely was stressful searching for it the first time because we thought they had lost it.

We didn't have any issue with our carseat which we put in its bag that looks like this: http://www.britaxusa.com/accessories/car-seat-travel-bag

For us, for the next trip we take, I'm buying a cheap umbrella stroller and just wrapping it in a clear bag. It seems like the handlers know the umbrella stroller "shape" and seem to know what to do with those. Plus, our bags came out filthy when we travelled last time. I wouldn't want our baby sitting in such a dirty seat since its not easy to get everything cleaned off at the airport.

@rattles: Yes, both times were gate checked. It was really nerve-wracking after our first flight. It took over 20 min. to locate our bag after the last people got their strollers. We barely made it to our connecting flight!

Our last trip, I bought a car seat bag and a cheap stroller frame. Despite reviews about how handlers were used to the bags, we ended up almost losing our car seat on both flights! 1st time they didn't bring it back up. The second time, they sent it to the large baggage counter where we had to go looking for it. Our return flights home DH didn't let me use the bag.

This week we're flying and I'm taking our UBV stroller. The cheap stroller frame broke. I have the UBV stroller bag that is supposed to have a warranty to protect it. DH doesn't want to use the bag and then have to go looking for the stroller. I'm thinking of duct-taping a big sign on the outside that says "STROLLER" and "CARSEAT".

Anyone else have this issue with traveling with the protective bags? IDK if it was just our dumb luck that both flights, they didn't seem to have a clue that it was a carseat inside... WWYD?
