Ugh... Poor baby is up and screaming again. She went down fine early, bc she hadn't taken great naps, woke up 40 minutes later and is crying so hard. Dh is trying to calm her but it's not going so well and I'm guessing I'll be nursing her back to sleep again. If this isn't teething- and I have my doubts that it is-- I'm never traveling again. Or not for a while. The trip wasn't even that fun.

Poor baby.

@swedishfish: she's fine this morning, slept well and back to her normal wake up time. She slept until 9:30 yesterday morning I think bc of jetlag (usual wakeup is between 7:30-8:30. ) I keep trying to look for teeth but she doesn't like it.

@Foodnerd81: R gets teething pains at completely random times. She will be fine one minute and screaming in pain the next. How's C doing today?

It usually takes my son 4 days to adjust from 6 time zones, in both directions.

We try to gradually change back and forth, eventually he "gets" it.

Poor babies. C actually did fine away- she was overtired when we arrived bc she didn't sleep a lot on the late plane, so had extra wake ups and short naps, but once she adjusted she had some of her best night time stretches in a while. It's just the falling asleep at night now.

@swedishfish: yeah I feel like it could still be teeth now. She just had a nice 7 hour stretch though, and was pretty happy all day. Is it normal for teething to only bother her in the evening?

Eta: also want to clarify bc I feel bad- she never cried for long tonight- she would cry for like a minute, stop and look almost asleep, cry again for a minute or two, calm... So no prolonged screaming alone, just repetitive. :(

Yeah, I totally wrecked my baby in Mexico. One hour time difference, crazy schedules and different routines, and allllllll she wanted for a solid week was me. I caved and started co-sleeping and nursing to sleep for bedtime and nap times, whereas she has been putting herself to sleep for about 2.5 months. We got back last night and are re-training. It sucks. But we did what we did because we had to survive somehow!

Yep we had this last week (though we did a different sleep training method) while we were still out of town. I rocked him to sleep both nights and the next day he woke up with a 103.5 fever and was sick for the next 3 days :( The day his fever broke, he went back to his normal sleep self so I'd guess that he just wasn't feeling well. I usually wait 3 days before I decide something is a new trend instead of just an aberration and do something to address it.

Um, yes definitely. We were gone for a week (no time change involved), and Fin's sleeping went to shit. She's usually a champion sleeper, STTN, puts herself to sleep, wakes up around 7ish. The WHOLE week we were gone, she never STTN (not once), woke up a few days at 4 am (!!!!!!), and had a difficult time getting herself to sleep. She had a crappy night our first night home, but has been fine since.

It could be teething even if you don't see any teeth. R has been teething badly for at least 3 weeks and the new teeth haven't popped through yet. Hopefully C adjusts soon...it breaks my heart when R cries.

Poor C. We did CIO a while ago and she has been going to sleep on her own for bedtime and naps for about a month, like a total champ. We went away for Christmas, with a 2 hour time change, lots of schedule disruptions while out and about, late bed times, and she handled it all so well, I was so proud. We got home Sunday and we put her to bed at her regular bedtime in the previous time zone (so, 9:30 here, which was 7:30 where we were).

We've been trying to move her back to local time and watching her sleep cues, but last night and tonight she was obviously tired, but screamed before falling asleep, like she hasn't since the first night of sleep training. Last night I thought it was teething so I caved and nursed her to sleep because I couldn't bear to listen to it, but the same thing happened tonight and we let her cry. It was so sad, but I know she just needs to relearn her routine and how to fall asleep in her crib. At least, I think so-- naps were fine, and I don't see any teeth.

Anyone else's baby get thrown off with the holiday craziness? Any other explanation for a 5 month old suddenly screaming before bed when she hasn't done that in a month?
