@Anagram: Thank you this is awesome!! A cookie sounds like the perfect treat on our way to/from the hotel.

So far our first day, Saturday, we'll arrive kind of late (our flight got changed on us to arrive at 5:15 boooo) so I think all we'll have time for is getting to the hotel and then venturing out to see the Rockefeller tree at night all lit up. Then back to the hotel to feed and put the baby to bed and DD1 can stay up with us and we'll order seamless and watch Home Alone 2.
Second day (Sunday) we're walking over to Central Park (stopping for bagels on the way) and then we'll visit AMNH once it opens and the kids are done playing. After that, lunch at Shake Shack and back to the hotel to rest or regroup. Then down to CAMP (whichever one) and treats (Dylan's Candy Bar and/or the MilkBar inside CAMP). After that, dinner somewhere near there or on the way back. There's a Grimaldi's pizza close to the CAMP on 5th that I was eyeing since I would love a good NYC slice. Lastly back to the hotel for bed/rest and maybe a surprise cupcake delivery to the hotel compliments of my friend who lives in the city and has too many gift cards :)
Our last day (Monday) we thought we would do a quick breakfast at the hotel (we have a kitchenette and there is a market across the street) or a grab-and-go option on our way back to Rockefeller. Then we'll try to do Top of the Rock first thing (hoping for smaller crowds) and afterward, we have a lunch reservation at the American Girl Place. If we can't get out the door and down there fast enough I might try to swap the AG store and lunch first, then Top of the Rock after, getting a flexible ticket or waiting to buy until we know better what the day looks like. Once that is done our only plans are to do what we may have missed, what we want to do again, and sightsee. This is our time slot to look at display windows (Frozen 2 at Saks is def sold out). We don't have solid plans for dinner this night or true plans so I'm going to check out your food recommendations and ask DH what he might want to do!

@lindseykaye: hey! a couple of things---a brand new CAMP store just opened in the Hudson Yards. There's also a Dylan's Candy bar there (there's one near the first CAMP location, too).

But more importantly, your hotel is super close to the best cookie place in the world, Levain. You HAVE to go get a cookie from there. You are also really close to Central Park and could go to Wollman rink for some ice skating or just go to the playgrounds.

If you want some fun places to eat with kids (I'd try slightly off hours, like an earlier lunch or an early dinner), you can try Black Tap or Sugar Factory). CityKitchen is good for a family if you are near Times Square, or Empanada Mama is a favorite of my kids if we meet my husband when he gets off work. Crowds are super insane right now in front of the Christmas windows at the department stores, so if you can ever go during off hours, it's more fun. Don't Miss the Saks 5th Avenue Frozen 2 themed Windows. They have a little Frozen 2 walkthrough inside Saks too, but it may be sold out now (only $5 ea).

@nana87: Awesome info thank you!! I had seen Jupiter car service on Mommy Poppins and booked through them but they didn't give me a quote so I'm planing to call and check on that before I confirm. I would love to use something that comes recommended by a real person - I'll give Legends a look today.

We are at the 72nd/Broadway station for our hotel (Hotel Beacon) taking the 1 most of the time to 50th and Broadway to get to/from Rock Center. One afternoon we're taking the same line down to 18th St. to play at CAMP. Keeping it SUPER simple and easy with such short visit.

DD1 is getting SO excited. I am too (despite thinking about packing and navigating the airports :p )

I would not bring a car seat; Legends car service is fantastic for trips to and from the airport and has rear facing or forward facing car seats; they prob have boosters too (lo1 is still forward facing so I haven’t checked!). They’ll bring whatever combination of seats you need and you can book ahead of time online.

For trips around the city, there are Uber’s that haVe immi go seats. Not ideal but better than nothing

Otherwise public transport is key. For the strollers, think about whether the subway stations near your hotel and destinations have elevators. On the uws, the 1/2/3 has elevators at 59, 66, 72, and 96. B/c doesn’t have elevators except at 59. We only take our big stroller if we’re using those stations, otherwise umbrella stroller or carrier.

@BUNBUN: Thanks for the tips - it's not supposed to snow (a bit sad about that) during our trip so I think wheel size will be fine either way. We did decide to do the smaller stroller and the carrier instead of the caboose. We'll be taking the subway, and the small stroller will be a lot easier to navigate up/down stairs as well as through crowds or to fold down and stash in a restaurant or store.

@Baby Boy Mom: Thanks for the reminder that there are car services with car seats! I booked one last night and am glad not to lug the infant carrier around. It's so heavy! Plus it doesn't fit with the small stroller and I don't think we'll taxi much around the city, if at all so it's just to/from the airport.

Whichever stroller you will be ok with either carrying up and down two flights of stairs (or potentially walking an extra half mile for an accessible subway station), or folding down to put in and out of cabs. My personal preference is to carry as little as possible. Pretty much every place will let you bring in a stroller except for some tiny restaurants. Union sq and Rockefeller center both have elevators.
As for car seat you don’t have to use one in the city. It always makes me a little uncomfortable but I wouldn’t lug one around. Get a car service that has a car seat from the airport and save yourself the hassle.
Let me know if you have more specific questions. Happy to help!

I think you'll be happy with either stroller, it's more of a question of what will stress you out more.

Personally, I would feel most comfortable wearing the baby and using the smaller stroller when required. I would definitely bring baby's carseat for the cab ride - it's a long ride from LaGuardia.

This time of year midtown is SO CROWDED that the bigger stroller might stress you out. But the joovy caboose looks smaller than my citi mini, and if you'd rather walk than ride the subway, the 7 year old might want to ride (idk how much of a walker DD7 is)

Another thing to consider is stroller wheel size. If it's supposed to snow, it might get slushy and you might want whichever stroller has bigger wheels. As for the bigger basket, I wouldn't leave much in your basket when you're in touristy, holiday crowds. Too easy for pick-pockets to take advantage.

It's also worth investigating whether any museums you want to visit allow strollers. I think most do, but I'd look into it.

Have fun! It's such great time to be in the city! I grew up outside of NYC and now live in Texas and I miss it so much this time of year!

I posted a few months back when we started planning a holiday time vacation with our two DDs (12 months and 7 years) and everyone was so helpful! Now that this vacation is upon us and I'm down to the details I wanted to reach back out for tips.
We will be flying from FL to NYC, staying for 3 nights.

My main questions are about the travel gear to bring.
Do we bring the bigger Joovy Caboose Ultralight or our 3D mini with boogie board? On one hand the bigger stroller has more flexibility and a decent storage basket underneath. DD2 can also sit down which I feel like will be a 'thing' if we don't have the option for her to do that. On the other hand it's heavier and bigger for navigating the city.

Also, should we bring LO1's infant bucket seat for possible cab rides (seatbelt fastened) and to use with the Joovy (if we bring it)? Or should we plan to stick to mass transit and use the smaller stroller along with wearing her in the carrier?

Last, we will probably just bring DD1's basic booster in case we take a taxi. This should work fine. yes?

Anything else I might not be considering as an option? We are flying into LGA and staying on the UWS. Mostly sticking to areas around Rockefeller and near Union Square.

Thanks!
