@MaisyMay: If you're set on going on this trip with a newborn, I would just do everything I could to avoid the airport. If you're a 60-70 minute flight, then I imagine its driving distance (i.e. you're in So. Cal. somewhere). I don't know if your husband could just fly with the 3 year old and you could take your time and drive with the newborn, or if he's willing to do a family roadtrip, but I would just avoid flying with an unvaccinated baby at all costs. Having a car would be helpful anyway because you really don't want to be dragging around the Strip in a stroller because the sidewalks are really crowded. And you can drag all your baby stuff, like a RNP or bouncer or whatever. If you have a car, you can just pop your kids into the carseats, and use your stroller once you're at your destination.

I don't know how much say you have in accommodations, but I would request a non-smoking PROPERTY - not just a non-smoking room. There is so much cigarette smoke in the lobbies and past the casinos that its hard to keep it away from kids. I would also only want to stay in a place with a legit separate bedroom suite and a kitchenette or kitchen. That way, your husband can sleep in the bedroom with the 3 year old and you can be on the pull-out with the baby at night. A kitchenette will make getting the 3 year old breakfasts and snacks easier and if you're formula feeding, you can wash bottles and what not. Even better is if you can get a place with a washer/dryer for spit ups, blow outs, etc. Luckily, most of the non-smoking properties also are nicer hotels with fully equipped suites, but if such a place is cost prohibitive, I would look at a VRBO or AirBnB option and stay at a condo.

http://www.lasvegaskids.net/news/smoke_free_hotels.htm

I would try to schedule just 1 major outing a day and take it easy. Like, you can go to the Bellagio for a fountain show in the afternoon (free) and then go to look at their botanical gardens inside, which are amazing. There's a big chocolate bar off the lobby that you can treat your kid to a gelato to afterwards. If your kid wants to watch the fountains again, go back in 30 minutes. Then pick a fun theme restaurant like Rainforest Cafe for dinner and be home for bedtime.

The buffets are usually really cheap or free for little kids and if you have DH around for an extra set of hands, that might be just a cool experience for your toddler, assuming you're not standing in line forever.

One day you can do one of the aquariums or animal habitats at one of the hotels. A lot of them allow kids to pet the animals or at least see them really close up and your toddler should still be free.

There's also a children's museum in Vegas that you might be able to take your toddler to:

http://www.discoverykidslv.org/ongoing-exhibits/toddler-town/

Another fun but low-key activity is to scout out fun snacks each afternoon. I would probably avoid the big food experience stores like M&M, Coke, and Hershey, but there's lots of different bakeries or dessert places that you can indulge in. Sugar Factory or Serendipity come to mind, but I'm sure even a Coldstone would blow a 3 year old's mind.

I don't think I'd be up for it at 5 weeks (even 6 weeks) post partum. I also wouldn't want to take an unvaccinated baby on an airplane. If the baby was more like 6 months old I think it would be a fun trip.

My main concerns would include how you are recovering, lack of vaccines for your newborn, and also Vegas in general. People smoke everywhere -- inside, outside.

Too much work plus the flying. Babies with fevers that young can be hospitalized to be checked for a lot of different things... ours was. Plus we took dd when she was 2 (and frankly easier than now at 3.5) and she was totally freaked out by it- the crowds, lights, etc. were overwhelming. Personally I'd skip!

My main concern would be vaccines. Airplanes are ground zero for germs, you don't even want an unvaccinated baby to get a cold, let alone whatever else is on there.
If baby was 8 weeks or older with first vaccines I'd say go for it!

@MaisyMay: I think you're confusing others' realistic concerns as negativity. It sounds like you've already made up your mind, because you're trying to reiterate length of stay, etc. to some posters who don't think it's a good idea. If you've already convinced yourself, there's no reason why you would need to stand up for your decision.

I agree with most of the previous posters. Vegas with a 5 week old is rough, and to throw a toddler in the mix makes it more of a headache. Sure, there are family-friendly activities in Vegas, but it's not a very family-friendly city overall, unless you get out towards Summerlin and the like. At that point, you might as well just stay home and take your kids to the local children's museum and city parks and enjoy the comforts of home.

Honestly, I think it would be fun! It is a super short flight for you and there is tons to do with kids in Vegas! I would rather travel with my hubby than hang out home alone! I am not one to want to spend a ton of time at my house even with a newborn though - I like getting out and about, and it is easier with a newborn than an older baby or young toddler!

I would not fly with an unvaccinated infant if I did not have to. And DH and I love Vegas but I would never want to take kids there with me. I don't find the city to be kid friendly at all and having kids eliminates pretty much all of the things that I want to do in Vegas.

I took DS at 3 months on a similar trip for my own work. I guess my question would be what do you envision doing the two days DH is working? I thought it was difficult with just DS (left my toddler home) and my mom was there too. Everywhere was smokey and I can't imagine being up for much at 5 weeks that would be fun for your older daughter. It was difficult to find changing rooms and quiet places to nursed (DS was highly distracted.) People were super nice and interested in DS, but it definitely wasn't set up for babies. The two days with DH might be fine, but the two days he is working sounds miserable.

I also wouldn't fly at 5 weeks, but if I were willing to, I'd rather fly out for the two days before or after, but not during, the show.

We did however get some awesome photos of DS in front of LV landmarks ;)

If the baby was older, I would say go for it but I do think 5 weeks is too hard to go on a trip. My LO2 is almost 4 weeks and I can't imagine taking a trip now. And he's a pretty calm baby. And LO1 is a great traveler.

But I would like to add, I think Las Vegas isn't too bad as it seems. We took LO1 when she was 13 months and we had a great time.

Nope Nope Nope. I would not take my unvaccinated infant anywhere near an airplane. And in terms of travel destinations, Vegas (with all the smoke, lights/noises, crowds, heat, etc.) would not be somewhere I would want to solo with a toddler and an infant.

There's no way I would do that. My LO was at the peak of fusiness/colic at 6 weeks and did nothing but cry for 6 hours a day. It was 100% unmanageable, even without an older sibling, plane travel, and everyone stuffed into a hotel together.

So I'm going to be opposite of those above because we have a trip planned like this for Sept ;) lo2 will be 16 months and lo1 will be 3. I have heard there is tons of family friendly activities in Vegas in fact I think a bee wrote a post (http://www.hellobee.com/2015/09/15/vegas-baby-with-a-baby/) on this. We go every 4 years for a conference and there were a lot of seemingly families last time (mind you we didn't have kids yet). We will have about a 3 hour flight each way which to me is the worst part.

At 5 weeks with Lo2 I was back to work and feeling great so I know I'd be fine at that point. My husband and I are done with vacations and ready to be home by day 5 so Tuesday-Friday sounds good to me as well

Just FYI, I went to Vegas with L when he was 3.5 months and he was way over-stimulated by all the lights and sounds, he was sobbing and would not eat (We just walked from one hotel to another to eat dinner while I wore him the whole time).

Do you think you could manage to stay through the weekend? I imagine the flights aren't booked yet, and shouldn't be any more, since you are already travelling on a Friday. You'd have to cover the cost of the hotel room for two extra days, but it would be nice to have some family time with DH there with you. Most of the entertainment there is adult-oriented, but there are stuff that would be fun for kids.

Given that your newest will be 5 weeks, assuming they come on time, I would say no since it's only for one night. If it were 2 or even 3 nights that would seem more doable given that the airport, installing car seats in a rental or taxi, checking in and unpacking your baby gear, etc. can take up a lot of time and energy. If you do end up going make sure you ask for a late check out so that you can keep your hotel room until 5/6 the second day instead of getting kicked out at 12 with your littles (we have done this a few times and the hotels usually charge 1/2 the price of a one night stay).

At 5 weeks PP I would not be up for traveling with 2 kids. I would want the comfort of my own home probably have my mom stay with me if possible.

@sunshineandsushi: @Mamaof2: @Littlebit: @yoursilverlining: @Truth Bombs: Sorry! I added that if we went, we'd fly out the day before the show and fly home the day after, so instead of 40 hours, it would be Tuesday through Friday.
