Definitely fly. It is such a short flight, it would be much easier. Check your carseat and keep your stroller until the last inure then gate check. Here are usually kiddie shows available on the flight, otherwise, take an iPad. The flight is short enough that by the time LO starts to get bored, you will be ready to land.

If you drive, I reckon it could be more like 12 hours.

I would fly unless you can drive through the night. If you can, definitely drive.

I'm with @wheres_c: if he does well in the car normally and if you can work it around nap time or drive at night, I think it would be easier to drive. That way you're not limited on what to bring on board, and you don't have to worry about bringing the carseat to the airport and dragging it around, etc. we drove from NoVA to Hilton Head when CB was not yet 2 and it wasn't bad. We watched a lot of Elmo DVDs and had lots of snacks, but he also slept a lot! Whenever we stopped, we tried to stop at a place near a park or at a chick-fil-a since they have indoor play places. Plus, it was really nice to have our own car while away. If the drive was 12 or more hours, I'd say fly, but 9 isn't too bad!

For sure fly! I just flew from WA to AL with my 16 month old and it was not bad. Everything is interesting to her...she could walk around in the airport, etc. my LO does fine in her carseat but after an hour she wants to walk around and get out...if it was a long trip she would probably nap but a 9 hour drive with rest breaks does not sound fun.

Fly!
We drove to Ohio from DC... not the most fun but we didn't have much choice. The flight to San Francisco was better even though it was 6 hours! No stopping on the way--and there is a drop down changing table over the airplane toilet. No lost time for pit stops!

I'm in the minority that said drive. The drive may be tough but it has a lot of pro's....you can stop along the way to eat, go to bathroom etc, and you can carry as much stuff as you want.
Flying may end up being the same time when you factor in travel to and from airport and potential delays.

I would totally fly. 2 hours on a plane is nothing compared to 9 hrs, which would turn into more with the stops you would need to make for breaks, etc. Unless you wanted to make a pit stop along the way to do something fun..

Fly, for sure. 9 hours of traveling does not sound fun with a one year old!

I'm planning a trip to visit my parents in Savannah, GA this summer and I'm trying to decide between driving and flying. The drive is about 9 hours and we had a really bad experience this winter with this trip. We haven't flown with our LO yet, but the pros would be less travel time. The flight from DC to Savannah is very short, less than 2 hours.
