@mediagirl: Ditto! We love being able to push DS around the airport in a stroller. Some airports are HUGE and it's always our luck our gate is always at the very end. We always do carry-on luggage so stroller is a big plus. I can't imagine handling our luggage AND holding a heavy toddler while trodding through a busy, expansive airport.

We haven't taken DS to Hawaii yet, but when we took him to SF, I left our stroller in the hotel room the entire time and just Ergo wore him everywhere since we walked everywhere.

When we took H to Florida at 6 months, we took the Snap-n-go. It was a little warm, but it was nice to have a stroller that folded up compactly. When we go next year, I plan on getting an umbrella stroller. I'm lusting after the Bumbleride Flite, but I don't know if I want to spend that much money on it.

We checked our stroller (Britax) and were so happy to have it with us if nothing else than in the airport! You can gate check it and the gate attendants are usually very helpful. My husband is insane about keeping our things nice and he was really worried about our stroller being damaged in flight. Nothing happened to it! Have so much fun!!

@Bubbles: Perfect. I really like the option of having the big basket to keep whatever we need in and T will nap on the go in it. @lamariniere: Thanks I feel good about gate checking it now. It is the fanciest baby item we own and I'm really attached to it. We live in the downtown district of our suburb and I use it daily so I'm scared of having something happen to it.

@youboots: Ok, in that case, stroller. We spent much more time on the Big Island than Oahu, but you would definitely want a stroller for walking around Waikiki. I would go with whatever you think your LO is going to be comfortable in. You don't *need* a bag to check your stroller. I've never put our Maclaren in a bag and it's still in great shape after almost 5 years and a lot of travel. We only flew with our big stroller once, and with no bag. It was fine on the way there, but on the way back part of the foam on the handlebar got a big chunk taken out of it. The rest of it was fine though.

I've never been to Hawaii, but we have a City Mini and we gate checked it last time we flew. It was all very smooth, no problem with the airline and we were able to keep it right up until the steps into the plane. We bought a bag for it off amazon but we didn't see anyone else using a bag and I think it would have been fine without.

@lamariniere: We are headed to Oahu too. I should have mentioned we will not have a rental car most of the time since we will be in Waikiki- and will be walking everywhere. So we for sure want a stroller of some kind.

We went to Hawaii (Oahu and Big Island) just before LO1 turned 1, he wasn't walking yet. We brought our Maclaren, which is an umbrella stroller, but barely used it because most of the time we were either driving or hiking with him in the Ergo. If I ever went back to Hawaii, I would totally forego the stroller.

ETA: as for an umbrella stroller, ours has been totally useful and traveled to 3 continents! I prefer traveling with it since I'm afraid of ruining our full size stroller. But it all depends on your lifestyle and where you plan on going with it.

We are headed to Hawaii for 2 weeks with the babe. The first week we are staying with friends in a big place with a washer/dryer full kitchen etc. The second week we are staying in a regular hotel room.

We have a city mini GT which I love, but I am debating bringing it. I think it would be so easy to get a stroller her infant seat clicks on to but I think she would hate it- and it would be really hot. So should we get an umbrella stroller or will it be ok to gate check our big stroller if we bring a bag? Side note: why would we want an umbrella stroller in general? Any recommendations?

I was thinking about getting one of these http://www.amazon.com/kilofly-Original-Instant-Portable-Travel/dp/B00C9SI7JW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1443705150&sr=8-4&keywords=baby+beach+tent but now that she's mobile I doubt it would go well. She is more likely to nap on one of us.

I'm sure there is a ton I could search on this topic, which I will do later, but my biggest question was specific to the stroller. That said, any other words of wisdom/advice on traveling with a baby to a tropical location?
