@rahlyrah: If it's only two days, you could conceivably just keep him on an East Coast schedule.

Also, at 6 months, I probably would have said, what the heck - it'll be fun, let's go for it! Now, at 10 months, I am much more of a fuddy-duddy because my baby is so much less adaptable to change. At 6 months she was great.

@rahlyrah: my son gets messed up in both directions! I don't know why that is, to be honest, so I would plan for the worst and be pleasantly surprised!

@septca: He will be 6 months at the time of the trip. We can't extend because it is right before Christmas.

@looch: If that's the case, he wouldn't adjust until we head home, right? It's only a 2 day trip?

We went to Europe at 4 mo and LO adjusted to the time change right away.

My son needs 4 days to adjust over 6 time zones, so I assume it would take him about 2 days to adjust over 3. I'd go.

How old is your baby?

We traveled across the country (so, 3 hour difference) with DD at 4 months and to Europe (7 hour time difference) at 7.5 months. Both times she did brilliantly with the time change - adapted right away on both ends (went to bed, woke up, and napped on schedule) and was a total trooper with the travel. The flight was much easier at 4 months (immobile, slept most of the time) than at 7.5 (wanted to move everywhere, chew on everything, totally distracted during nursing, cried a lot louder...).

HOWEVER, we learned that she does not sleep well in the same room as us. We went from 1-2 wake-ups per night to 4-5... and it did take a couple of weeks after both trips to get her back on a wake up schedule.

I agree that it is NOT worth it for 2 days. Can you extend your trip?

@mrsjyw: I think it will be a pain, too! If it were an extended trip I would be more receptive but it seems like such a hassle for only 2 days.

DS has handled 1 hour time zone changes beautifully (we just adjust to local time), but 3 hours does seem like a stretch. Maybe you can start slowly change his routine at home in the week prior to leaving? I have a feeling it'll be a PITA when you're back home tho to get back!! :(

We live on the east coast but DH travels to SoCal for work every month. Every year, his company has a big Christmas party and this year they want us to bring LO. I'm a little apprehensive about taking LO on a 6 hour flight as it is, but am more concerned about the time zone change. Will the 3 hour difference throw a wrench in our routines? I'm assuming that B will be a cranky mess at the party because in his mind it will be past bedtime. Would it also disrupt our schedule when we return home?

I feel bad because DH REALLY wants to show off his boy. It just seems like a lot of hassle for a 2 day trip!

Any experience with traveling across time zones with an infant?
