I did a pretty serious hiking vacation when I was 6 months pregnant. We did 2 - 12 mile days at Glacier National Park and then 2 smaller 5/6 mile days. My hiking partners pretty much let me set the pace. Good shoes, snacks and water are key. Have fun!

I went on a hiking vacation at 8 or 9 weeks pregnant last time and we just made sure to always have enough water and food. We also alternated between strenous days and days which were more about relaxation.

We went to Egypt when I was pregnant and did a lot of walking/hiking/climbing. In fact, here I am up a mountain in the desert! I think it just depends how you feel! just take lots of water with you, listen to your body and stop for breaks when you need to. Oh and don't do anything too dangerous - for example, I didn't ride a camel in the desert (DH did) in case I fell off!!

I hiked 8 miles roundtrip when pregnant and just made sure I wore really good hiking shoes with good tread so I didn't accidentally slip and fall, and brought along a lot of water!

I did some pretty intense hiking at glacier national park was I was 28 weeks and was fine, but I ran and/or swam almost every day of my pregnancy to that point. Like PPs have said, as long as you aren't pushing your body beyond what's normal and comfortable for you, you should be fine. Definitely stay hydrated and well fed and take breaks when you're tired. Have fun!

I run the outdoors club at the school i teach at, and went on a 3 day hiking/bushwalking trip with the kids when I was 10 weeks pregnant (and nobody knew!!)...I pushed myself probably harder than I should have (did some rappelling, heart rate went up on climbs, etc), but nothing i did was new, it was all things I'd done regularly pre-pregnancy, which I think is the important thing. I'd be mindful of your breathing and heart rate (not that I was  ) but realistically I think you should do whatever you want!

We live in the mts and I'm currently 10w pregnant and we do hike every weekend still. I'm very very slow now though. I also jog during the week but go slowly. I think if you are in shape and did it pre pregnancy why not? Just listen to your body and snack and drink water and take breaks as needed.

With my first pregnancy I ran in the first trimester and did a ton of hiking in the mountains! Just take breaks if necessary and stay hydrated.

We lived in Alberta while I was pregnant with both our girls, and I skied, hiked, snowshoed, all that kind of stuff no problem. I was able to do some pretty serious hiking when i was 8 months pregnant with my first, and aside from needing to take it slower than I might have chosen to normally, it was great!
Have fun! I have always wanted to go to Iceland!

We went to Mexico when I was 8-9 weeks. I still did a lot (swimming, hiking, bike rides, kayaks, horse riding) but took naps when I needed to. I was pretty sick though, which kinda sucked. Hope your trip is great!!

I went to New Zealand from like 10-13 weeks. I had to cancel some of the hardcore stuff (caving, bungee jumping) but otherwise I was fine. Just go at a pace you can handle, and yes, drink lots of water.

We went on a hiking trip when I was about eight weeks pregnant. I was totally fine, other than getting out of breath easier than usual, but I was already used to that from my work outs. I just made sure to stay hydrated and that I was never too out of breath to carry on a conversation. Enjoy! Sounds like it will be an awesome trip!

DH and I went to Paris for a week when I was about 14 weeks pregnant. It wasn't really an adventure type vacation but we did do a lot of walking. I even walked up the Arc de Triomphe and one of the towers at the Notre Dame cathedral (a lot of stairs!!). I felt good the entire trip. We made sure to keep me well hydrated and took lots of breaks.

I'm sure you will have a great time! Iceland sounds amazing!

Since its just next week, if you're not feeling too bad now, then I doubt much will change. But make sure that your schedule is flexible! I was pretty useless at nights and often needed afternoon naps. Nausea-wise, as long as I had snacks I was Ok.

Maybe see about getting a prescription for diclectin (I think it's called something different in the states, but essentially the morning sickness medication) before you go. I had morning sickness to the point that if I stood up, I threw up between 1pm and 8pm. You'd hate to be completely stuck in your hotel praying to the porcelain gods the entire trip.

I think do whatever you feel up to. If you're tired and would rather relax, I suggest doing that! Listen to your body, stay hydrated, and I think you'll be fine!

Has anyone had experience with hiking trails and adventurous type vacations while pregnant?

We are going to Iceland next week, I'll be 10 weeks. I've never been there but DH is planning an active vacation with a lot of outdoor activities. I am planning on just going along and taking a lot of rest breaks when I need to and staying hydrated, but wanted to know if anyone had done this type of travel and have any advice.

Thanks in advance!
