I had to do a lot of traveling around that time. It wasn't fun to be in the car for that long but it was doable. I'd just look at potential hospitals just in case

Which part of the outer banks would influence my decision somewhat too. If you're going to be near Nags Head, it's a little different than if you are somewhere more isolated.

FWIW, I'm taking a 2.5 hour car trip right now at 31.5 and I'm pretty uncomfortable. I wouldn't want to go any farther and I wouldn't want to travel much later in pregnancy but I do think it's an individual decision based on how your pregnancy goes and how you feel.

What beach will you be going to? I went to Myrtle Beach last summer at only 25 weeks and the heat and sun were pretty intense. We definitely had to scale back ask on some of our planned activities! If you make sure to not overwhelm yourself and try to stay indoors during peak sun hours, you should be fine and will have a blast! The water also felt great.

Also, if you wear a bikini, there's no such thing as too much sunscreen on your belly. Learned that one the hard way. ;)

Hate to be a naysayer, but I would not go. Granted, my pregnancy was somewhat fraught with complications that resulted in an unplanned induction, but I would not take any unnecessary risks at that point in the pregnancy (or at any other point in the pregnancy either . . . *gah*). 8 hours is just much too much, imo.

@Foodnerd81: we can't go earlier. My parents own the house and it's already rented all of June-September. My parents randomly reserved a personal week in July.

We ARE going for Easter & for two weeks in May (maybe?!) but it's more fun for C in the summer!

I just did a 4 hour drive at 32/33 weeks and was uncomfortable but it wasn't horrible...it did turn our 4 hours into 5 though and I was exhausted after! We had a 9 hour trip when I was 28 weeks and it sucked. It took more like 12 hours with stops and I was so uncomfortable! Baby was up in my ribs the whole drive. If you think you'd be comfortable I think it would be fine. But it will likely take you several hours longer than usual.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Well, in that case, I wouldn't make the decision until you're much closer to the vacation so you can tell how you've been doing. But having a hospital there just in case is better than nothing.

@luckypenny: thanks! So the long car ride isn't an issue that late in pregnancy?

I went when I was 27/28 weeks with Chloe and it was a fun, easy trip. LOVED the pool. Scared of the ocean. Love sitting in the sand and reading!
