I think the biggest thing is not being familiar with where you should go if you have an emergency, especially if you aren't fluent in the local language. So, preparation is key, as is telling your existing doctor and getting a print out of your medical history, if possible. Research hospitals before you go, make sure you write down the address and phone number, etc.

It's good practice for when you travel with your kids in the future, too.

I know how you feel. We were supposed to take a cruise/baby moon when I was 20 weeks and I chickened out because I didn't want to be pregnant and out of the country. Next time assuming I don't have morning sickness as bad as before, I would totally go!

@kbm1026: I'm going to be in France during the same time, we leave Friday! I traveled in France around that same stage of pregnancy when pregnant with both of my LOs. 20ish weeks is a good time to travel, you are not likely to have morning sickness and you aren't big enough to be really uncomfortable. Try to walk around the plane a lot to keep the blood moving.

As for medical issues, if anything were to happen, you would receive excellent healthcare there. The bummers are that you can't indulge in a lot of things like wine and cheese, and watch out if you are a cheese lover since there are a number of unpasteurized cheeses "lait cru". Bon voyage!

I went to France when I was about 14 weeks pregnant. It was no big deal. The only problem was that I had to limit my wine consumption, and I couldn't have any of the amazing raw goat cheeses in Provence.

They have pregnant women in other countries too!

I didn't go far, just to Jamaica, but I was 23 weeks along. It was fine, just stay hydrated and don't push yourself too hard. Don't freak out!

I traveled internationally at 26 weeks pregnant. The only part which was really tough on me was that my legs swelled a lot on the flights and I had some difficulties walking for a day or so after landing. I also had the doctor write a note for me because I was anxious about the airlines questioning how far along I was but it was fine.

Good luck and safe travels!

I traveled from Italy to the US when I was around 30 weeks pregnant. I made sure to drink tons of water and got up and walked a lot on the plane. I also definitely had people help me whenever possible (I was flying/traveling alone, though).

20 weeks is a great time to travel and France is LOVELY—I'm totally jealous!

I went to Mexico at 33 weeks pregnant! I wore compression socks, got up multiple times to use the restroom during the flight to stretch my legs, and as the others said, asked my doctor for a copy of my medical file.

I had a great time and all will be well. If it makes you feel better, locate the address/name of a hospital in the city you are going to and put it in your phone for the taxi driver if something happens.

Went to Taiwan for 10 days when I was 20 weeks pregnant. It was the perfect time to travel since I was over morning sickness and not huge and uncomfortable. The worst was the swelling tho. Compression socks might have helped with that.

I went from Australia to the US for 2 weeks at 24 weeks pregnant and had a great time. I did need to take it a bit slower and was exhausted by the end but it wasn't much worse than normal trip tiredness and there wasn't much I didn't do. Was the perfect time in my pregnancy to travel though as I felt the best then. The flights were fine since my belly wasn't too big, my feet swelled even though I wore compression socks.

Have a great time! I love Paris :)

I don't have a ton of tips, and I'm definitely not an expert, but I have done a fair bit of traveling while I've been pregnant - we had a bunch of trips planned for this spring and summer!

Obviously, check with your Dr. about any specific tips, but my OB suggested I take a baby aspirin the morning of my flight to help cut down on the risk of blood clots. Pregnant women are more at risk of blood clots, so make sure that you're getting up from your seat frequently, and walking up and down the aisle a bit. Stretch your legs, etc. I wore compression socks a few times, although they annoyed me.

I bought the sea bands to help cut down on morning sickness/nausea when flying, but I don't think they helped much.

Drink tons and tons of water! Make sure you stay hydrated. It's easy to forget to drink when you're traveling, so just try to be conscientious about it.

On that same note, I suggest that you always have snacks on hand! I know it's different for everyone in their pregnancy, but with mine, I get SO ravenous SO quickly! And if you're traveling, sometimes it's hard to find shops, etc. that have a quick bite to eat. So when you arrive (and even in your carry-on), pack crackers, etc. that can help tide you over.

If you're super nervous about it, try to look up local hospitals that are near where you'll be staying, just for peace of mind. My husband also had travel health insurance covered through his work, so that helped us feel a bit more at-ease.

Honestly, though, it's not so different from being pregnant where you are from :) Just make sure you're getting up and moving around on the plane, and eating and drinking enough. You'll be fine. And HAVE FUN! I love France

We spent a week in Paris when I was 26 weeks. It was GREAT. I obviously - sadly - had to take it easy on the wine and soft cheeses, but otherwise the trip was easy.

We are planning to go to Paris/Normandy at the end of August for about a week and a half (flying from Philly) I will be exactly 20 weeks when we leave. My dr says it's fine but I am still a little nervous about flying/being in another country while pregnant. Does anyone have any tips/recommendations? Anyhing to calm down a nervous preggo :silly:
