And every place has bottled or purified water. If it doesn't, it's not likely a resort you'll enjoy.

I went pretty early to a really lovely resort in a relatively remote part of Mexico with the best food ever. I told everyone my limitations and they respected them. I skipped unpasteurized cheese, and most of the fish -- even tho it was fresh caught everyday. (that part sucked. I love fish)
I ended up eating a lot of beef and chicken because most of the fresh fish there is off limits. You can do it -- just be clear with the chef about what you can and can't eat. Most high-end places are used to dietary restrictions and will be very accommodating.

I went at 22 weeks, and it was great. We stuck to the resort, so I wasn't too worried about the food or water.

You will want to be a bit more cautious, but I would absolutely go. Just try to stick to bottled water and mostly cooked foods. Things with lots of acid will be fine too. Check with the resort, but if it is a place that caters to Americans, everything will be made with filtered water, etc.

We went to Paris for our baby moon and the only thing I avoided was salad.

We did! I was 20 weeks and all went smoothly. I did avoid fresh fruits, veggies, and fruit juices which was a bummer but I enjoyed our vacation very much.

I started a thread on this way back then: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/what-foods-to-avoid-while-in-mexico-and-pregnant

I believe @PUI: just did this for her babymoon! I'd try messaging her.

DH and I are starting to think about where we want to go on our babymoon in September. Maui would be ideal since it's the beach vacation we want with the assurances of safe food. However as we research this my mind keeps going back to how much cheaper it would be to go to an all inclusive resort in Mexico, (Playa del Carmen, or Tulum.)

We've been to Playa del Carmen before and absolutely loved it. My only hangup is the fear that food may be unsafe for the lowered immune system of a pregnant woman. I'm normally a very adventurous eater but the food issue this time around worries me. Like how can I be sure that their cheese is pasteurized, etc.

Has anyone traveled to Mexico on vacation during their pregnancy? What was your experience?
