Yeah, the flight itself isn't the biggest issue for us. We've tried adjusting the schedule before, but that can be hit or miss. We go for at least two weeks and we have help from my patents in the US, for a week, that would be super tough.

Also consider the time difference, it takes 4 days each way for my son to adjust across 6 time zones.

@808love: yeah, it also depends on how much free time you'll have to spend with DH and LO in NYC. if you're too busy, DH might get upset that he is alone in a strange city with the LO?

Hurmm.. tough call. If you're going to be busy and if it's for work, I would just leave DH and the baby at home. It's a.. 12 hour flight?
Your LO will probably be more comfortable at home.
DH's going to Germany in November (LO will be 1.5 years old) and I was thinking about going with, but I'd rather skip the long flight and hotel stay. Since he'll be speaking at a conference, LO and I will be on our own most of the time. Plus, he'll be worried/thinking about us..

Let us know what you decide!

@808love: That's a tough one, you seem to have pros and cons for each. Could you try leaving for a shorter time before you have to decide? Like go out late and have your husband put her to bed, see how it goes?

I'm trying to figure out what's best for baby too. My hubby is unsure what's best for her too and can go either way. He doesn't know which will be tougher...putting her to sleep without me or taking her on the plane. Right now, she loves mama's milk and being close to me. My husband could use a little break from each other (I never thought I would admit that!) but I know he was quietly excited about the prospect of going. So based on that, it might be my answer right there.

I'll check out Mrs.Bee's post I missed. It's been really hard for me to get on the boards these days but I start my break again so now I'll have some time to get updates. Glad to hear from you guys. @artbee: Thanks for asking that question.

What does your husband think about it? I think it's a personal decision with no right or wrong. Personally, I'd rather have my family there with me. I would hate to leave LO for a whole week! But I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who said I didn't want to vacation without my LO in Mrs.Bee's post.

@Andrea: Thanks so much! Yah, I'm planning on weaning, like 2 months ago... :D. It feels good that you get exactly where I'm at. We were supposed to go to Vegas for my grandma's 90th birthday this Oct and were already chickening out of that even though it's a big family shindig. If we bring LO, I'll definitely tell you how I desperately prayed and survived, I mean--all the travel tips. :D.

@mrbee: She will be 1 year, 6 months and 1 week to be exact.
She is a total wiggly worm right now, just started walking 2 months ago. Can't even stay in the shopping cart for 15 mins. Do they grow out of that in a few months... I hope?

If you go alone, are you planning on weaning before the summer I guess?

It seems to be a great opportunity for you to have alone time but it would also be a great family trip. I think it depends on which one you want more?

As for flying from HNL to NYC, I am still too chicken to do it and my daughter is almost 2! My parents really want me to visit but I am like "Naaaaah, later!". So if you do it, please let me know all of your travel tips!

And a big congrats for winning the honor!!!

I'm going to NYC this summer for a week. It's an all expenses paid award for a math/science teacher camp so I'm really excited and will be learning a lot during the half day workshops. There will be a lot of nationwide networking opportunities if I want and I do love to travel. I'm still hesitating on deciding if I bring my 18 month LO with my husband? Part of me wants to just have a break and focus on doing things there. This is my dream trip which is why I applied in the first place. But as of tonight, LO is still not weaned and I would miss her terribly, not to mention worry. Since we've been married I don't even want my husband to take trips without me though he will be going away for work in 2013.
My husband and I are freaked out to take our baby on long car rides, much less a Honolulu to NYC trip. Still, it might be a good experience for them. We would only pay for his flight only and could do a few extra days in the heart of the city using travel points. Anyone left their babe for a week? OR Anyone take their family on a long 'work' trip and have some encouragement? I'm sure either way there would be good/bad. I'd just like to hear your experiences.
