We took our first trip (just two days in the next town over) when DS was 3 weeks. DD is almost two, so a little younger than your DD.

We booked a room with two queen beds and a crib provided by the hotel. DD normally sleeps in her own toddler bed, and she was fine in one of the queen beds with some pillows lined up along the edge. Although we do co-sleep with DS, I didn't want to bring all of the stuff to make the hotel bed safe (mesh guard rail, etc...), so we just put him in the hotel crib for those two nights. The crib fit between one of the beds and the wall, so we still had plenty of space in the hotel room.

My suggestion would be to minimize extras. You'll be lugging enough stuff around without bringing the extra travel bassinet, especially if you don't need it in Ohio. As far as your DD goes, it's really your/her comfort level. If you think she'd be uncomfortable in the big bed, go for the rollaway cot, instead.

How many days? I'd be tempted to do a travel bed for your LO, they have good resale value, so you could sell it when you're done.

I don't like to "rough it" when travelling, though. I want all the comforts of home!

DH & I went a little insane and booked a 9-day trip this summer with our 3yo and our (approx.) 8-week old baby. We'll be in SoCal for 4 days and Ohio for 4 days.
We've traveled a lot with DD so I'm good with packing, car seats & strollers and gate checking and all that. The issue I can't resolve is sleeping arrangements.
In SoCal we're going to be staying in a hotel. We're not co-sleepers so I'm trying to figure out the best arrangement for our family. My options are:
2 queen beds (1 for us, 1 for DD) and a pack-n-play or a crib provided by the hotel for LO
OR
1 king bed for us, a roll away cot for DD and a travel bassinet thingy that sits in the bed between me & DH for LO.

Once we get to Ohio we won't have to worry about it but I can't figure out what to do in Cali! I think option 1 would mean that we wouldn't need to lug anything extra with us which would be nice but maybe it would be less crowded to do option 2.
I could always purchase the co-sleeper thing and have it shipped to my friends in CA so I wouldn't have to worry about it. We won't be using it at home anyway.

Has anyone done this?
