I'd do whatever I could to bring baby with me. There's no way I could leave for a week at that age.

I brought him with me. He refused to take a bottle, so he came and I hired a nanny. So far from ideal, but it worked.

@mrsbells: ugh not fun at all! If it was me, I would first talk to the boss and see if there's any chance you can only go to part of the training and skype/call in for some of it. My second choice would be to figure out if DH or a grandparent could come with you so you don't have to spend your entire trip pumping. Plus a week away from an infant is going to be hard on you and him! If you do have to pump though I agree with others to talk to your boss and let him/her know the situation, your needs, and educate yourself all about TSA regs, getting your gear together, calling the hotel to make sure you have a fridge, ice, etc. For a week you'll have to find dry ice and do a shipment or two back home unless your hotel has a reliable freezer. It's a hassle but it will be worth it in the end! Good luck!

I traveled a few times when LO2 was young. Most of my trips are 3 days/2 nights, so it wasn't that bad. I built up a large stash while on leave, and I just made sure to stick to a pumping schedule. I traveled with a soft sided cooler to transport milk back.

If you are breastfeeding, figure out the logistics of traveling with milk, and where you can take pumping breaks.

If you aren't breastfeeding, enjoy getting an uninterrupted night's sleep!

I brought my mom along - it was too stressful trying to figure out the BM logistics - Having her there was just like being at home and going to DCP - I was able to nurse in the AM and PM and overnight and then I pumped during breaks at the conference and my mom fed that to DD the next day

@mediagirl: Yeah right now we are trying to look at the possibility of DH coming with me. the sucky thing is we dont even know where we will be flyiing to yet, it all depends on which teams we get assigned to and despite asking to get that information in advance its likely we wont know til very close to the date

@Mrsbells: that's really tough. I would make sure your boss knows that you will need x amount of time each day to pump. It's going to be really stressful so your supply may tank a bit but it will come back. Is there any chance someone (a grandparent, your husband) could come with you and bring the baby for the flying portion?

How do you balance this? With DD I never had to travel away from her for work. Now DS is 3 months old and I am going back to work soon but its in a new position and new city since we moved right before he was born. I'm only just being told that i will have to drive a few hours away for part of the training and then fly somewhere for the rest of the week. I am freaking out because he will be less than 4 months old at the time plus i am breast feeding him. The tought of leaving him at daycare all day is hard enough so I cant imagine leaving him for an entire week. For those of you that travel for work with an infant how did you handle it
