hooray you made it in one piece! glad your eldest could keep himself entertained. sounds like you were at least mentally prepared for how your youngest handled the flight. you've earned your badge of honor (again)!

Sorry for the late reply. I haven't had a chance to sit down until after we've arrived. Thanks for all the tips! I did manage to find some coloring books at the last minute which both kids used. Thankfully, Delta had an awesome entertainment system which kept him occupied the entire time while my youngest threw tantrums and cried over everything. :)

I second coloring books and about 4x as many snacks as you rhino you'll need- snacks was the real key to our survival. Also a favorite board book... we must have read Zoo Babies 47 times on one flight. He also liked watching Cars without sound on my ipod.

My BFF's daughter was into her iPad already by that age. Repetitive movies she loved entertained her, as well as some educational video games, like matching shapes. Seriously, it's like the only "toy" they every bring out since she was ~1. I really have to bow down to you - you're brave!

This will be us in a few months... Travellibg with crazed DD for first time since she was 6 months.
i travelled a lot with my DS when he was 10-20 months old - things that worked well for us were:
Camera - we had a toy camera he played with for hours
Small farm animals
Play doh - we had a little Tupperware of play doh that we used a LOT.
Magna doodle - hours of drawing.

That said, T was such a chilled little guy really that he was quite content to sit still (compared to his little sister at least).

We also used Painstop (slight sedating effect) on long flights ... It helped with jet lag/time changes. (And helps ear issues was our primary reason for using it)

Good luck!

For those who remember I am moving overseas and we have less than a week left in the U.S.! I've traveled with both boys overseas earlier this year but my youngest wasn't walking and was content sitting in the Ergo most of the time on the plane. Now he is 17 months and wants off a lot quicker than before. He'll have his own seat this time but he has ants in his pants all the time like most young toddlers do.

I'm confident (I hope!) that my oldest will be fine with the iPad and my iPhone or the plane movies like last time. However, with my youngest I can't think of light weight (referring to my carry on) ideas to entertain him b/c my brain is so tired from the move and all the craziness that's been going on. Any tips for entertaining a 17-month-old on a 13 hour plane ride? He'll have his brother's things to play with but he'll prob get bored fast. I'm worried he's going to be the tough one and am not sure how he's going to sleep on the plane. The last time he only slept 2 hours (total!) during the 24-hour trip overseas.

Oh, and we'll also have our 12.5 dog with on in cabin. Too bad she can't come out to play! :(
