We are planning to go to Costa Rica with LO in December too! She will be one. I've been before and there is definitely a bunch of fun, adventurous stuff to do, but i think there are enough baby friendly sight seeing things to make the trip worth it over all (: We are currently trying to convince the inlaws to join us...aka babysitters for a few nights of couple fun (:

@Mrs. Jacks: We've loved all the islands we've seen, but I agree there's something really great about Kauai. :) I've also never spent a night away from LO, glad I'm not the only one. :)

@Pink Champagne: ooh, we don't love Maui because we felt so pressured to do touristy things while we were there. My favorites are the big island and Kauai :)

Never been to Costa Rica but as far as Hawaii goes, I would go to Maui. There's just more to do, and it's more beachy. Honolulu is definitely a city. Rent a car and you can get a carseat or bring your own and just strap it in with the seatbelt. Also bring a lightweight umbrella stroller and you'd be set.
I hear amazing things about Costa Rica but don't know how baby friendly of a vacation that would be.

I loved Costa Rica, but everything we did when we were there would be difficult to do with a baby. I'm sure there are a lot of things you could do with a baby there, but I personally don't feel like it's worth going all the way to Costa Rica to stay at an all inclusive and not do any of the more adventurous things. Even when LO is 3 or 4, they would enjoy a lot more of what you'd be doing, so I don't think you'd need to put that trip off forever, just until LO is walking and able to enjoy it a little more.

I've never been to Hawaii, but I'd love to go. It seems pretty family friendly from what I've heard, except the super long flight from the East Coast.

Make sure wherever you are staying has somewhere you can hang out after baby goes to bed, either a separate sitting room or a balcony. Otherwise you'll be stuck in a dark bedroom next to a sleeping baby all night!

We go to Hawaii every year. This will be the first year with 2 girls and we're really nervous about coordinating it all... We always rent a car and bring our carseat(s). We've never left our girls overnight and can't imagine doing it any time soon. It helps to rent a condo somewhere with a pool that is fully equipped with a crib, snorkel gear and beach toys.

Never been to Honolulu but I loved Costa Rica, though we went pre-baby. Baby wearing helped us a lot when we travel.

So for christmas my hubby gave me the option of travelling somewhere warm. Originally, we were planning on leaving our almost 8 month old with grandparents, but that's turning out to be quite a pain in the arse, and I figure we may as well just take her rather than deal with the stress.

So, for those who have vacationed with your LO, where would you recommend? We were thinking of Costa Rica or Honolulu. We would like to go somewhere that didn't need any extra needles, health risks, etc. (Although there is risks anywhere you go).

Also, what did you bring with you? Stroller? Backpack? What happens if you need to take a taxi, do you need a carseat?

TIA :)
